Yow.

No poetry?
Did I say that? (stumbles out and looks up at the sign hanging over the door)
Hmmm.
I did say that, didn't I?
Now why did I do that? (mumbles into the cold coffee)

That's sort of like inviting someone over for lunch, only to find out the fridge is
bare, isn't it?

Now here's an interesting thought...
Why is poetry so much more personal than other kinds of writing?
Why, for instance - do writers get so much more upset when their poetry
isn't understood? (or accepted, or adored, even.)
(compared to the more prosaic, methodical forms of writing - such as essays & articles
and such.)
I've noticed that.

And I speak from experience. I was that way myself - when I wrote a lot of poetry.
Readers could tear my other stuff to shreds....and I'd practically apologize for getting
them upset, unsettling their digestion, conjuring up bad dreams, or whatever else my
stuff did to them..............
But mess with the poetry - and out came the Rottweilers and Pit Bulls.

It reminds me of something like the good old days at public laundromats.
I could understand when someone bagged my brand new beach towel.
That made a whole lot of sense. It was just a towel.
But when they grabbed my favorite pair of wash-worn jeans?
That was just - too -personal!

The connection between poetry and laundry....has haunted my existence for far too long...
