I'm confused. Ruined what? There's plenty of time between adds to go back and write what happened in the meantime ...
The situation wasn't being ignored, we just had to move along, same reason Rell apparently was ignoring Sybra. Remember, we are in a collaborative environment, but that does not give us, individually, permission to state what another char's thinking or feeling or his/her motivations for actions. Keeping true to that writer's vision of what their character is like
is difficult and, when in doubt,
not involving said char is usually the best option.
I'm controlling Karadur because he's mine (a plot device I can't seem to get rid of now) and I'm controlling Alan because Djourn gave me permission to do so.
People 'assigning' motivations/reasoning to my chars is one of the things that pisses me off quickest; the other is what is known as metagaming. Metagaming is an individual char being given knowledge that he/she would not or could not have garnered through their involvement in the story (ie, the author is taking their knowledge of the story and letting their char act as though he/she knows as well).
This is why I try to limit my involvement of chars not my own to describing their actions and/or giving them bits of dialogue. I study the chars and give them or have them do things that I believe to be within their char description, that is realistic and believeable to that char. This is why I always say to let me know if I've done something wrong (out of char or whatnot). Also, only describing actions gives the owner of that char the option of explaining why that char did/said whatever it was, in their own words, and/or describing the situation from their own POV. That's one of the things I love so much about campfires, the unique ability for six (or however many) people to describe the same scene/situation from six different perspectives.
I apologize for turning this into a rant, but the short of the matter is that when chars/writers get skipped, we lose out on possible action/involvement in the story. If you wish there to be something more, that's what this forum is for, to interact with that char's owner (for an example, go to the very beginning of this forum to see the conversations between me & Djourn). You can also email that author and/or state in the forum that your char would react this way or that way given a particular situation. And, as I always say, feel free to email me an add at anytime, whether it's your turn or not.
