Re: Reading & Writing
I am definately a reader as well as a writer and I find my inspiration to write often leans toward the genre I'm reading most frequently and so I have to be careful to read what I want to be writing. If I'm working on fantasy I should read fantasy. If I'm working on romance I should read romance. I find if I read romance when trying to write fantasy I start wanted to stop the fantasy and start a new romance. And vice versa. Where as if I read fantasy while writing fantasy I'm inspired to go harder with my book, get it finished.

I also read other genre's although I don't enjoy them as much. They don't inspire me to start writing a book in thriller or science fiction etc. But I love exploring the intricasies in plot and character development. When I'm reading I'm also studying how the writer did it. I feel reading a lot is a great way to learn.

Having said that, at some point you have to put other people's books down and write. Don't let reading become your excuse for not writing. It is an easy procrastination tool to make us feel like we are still working when we really aren't. Don't forget to be a writer you have to write.

Have fun and keep writing,
Yours truly,
Rebecca Laffar-Smith
