Yes, I agree whole-heartedly with Liam and Average Joe. Liking, or better yet loving your story is important, but you show that care with attention to detail, including the pesky mechanical parts of writing. More, through the use of commas, apostrophe's, colons, dashes, periods, word choice, and spelling, you convey your story to the reader. If done properly, the reader never notices the mechanical details, only the overall effect, but if done poorly, they can't see the story for the lack of control.
