I think it's good to have a couple different projects going. You don't want to spread yourself too thin, but if you're having trouble with one project then you can work on a different one for a while. It keeps you in the habit of writing, and allows you some time before going back to the original project with a fresh outlook. I have my novel I'm focusing on, but occasionally I'll take a break and write some poetry or work on another story.
