My problem is that things when I start them take on a life of their own and it seems as if someone is telling me the story rather than me writing it. What truth there is gets blended with the fiction so I no longer know which is which.

I've read this several times and keep getting puzzled because I'm hearing you say this like it's a bad thing and in my experience, what you describe is a good thing. [You just have to be careful who and where you mention that you hear voices. Most people here are probably okay. Maybe. ;) ]
