You did a great job adapting this idea for younger kids. I especially liked the story guidelines in paragraph 5. They could be used as general guidelines for other story starters.
The problem here (my math stupidity is going to show!) is that I simply can't envision an enjoyable adventure that incorporates the detailed math you are asking for. It would have really helped for you to give a brief example paragraph showing an adventure task involving a math problem.
Possible adaptation: Instead of math rules/problems, use rules/problems currently causing trouble in the home or school as the story-starter. For instance, if name-calling has been an issue, have the story incorporate name-calling & some solution to the problem.
