Death personified - 10 lines, freeverse

"Invalid ItemOpen in new Window.

Death. Like the trickster Coyote,
you leave me doubled in pain
and let me smile like a child.
Should I cry, when you take first
my soul, then the life of my kin?
Should I laugh, when your wily
ways leave you hanging in mid-air,
only to fall away from your prey?
Are you fear, personified?
Or are you comic relief?

Seduction - Pantoum (8 quatrains)

The wind blew into the little town.
The steeple fell down in the mud.
The people held onto their children,
to wait out the worst of the flood.

The steeple fell down in the mud;
the pastor went to his knees in prayer.
To wait out the worst of the storm,
Jane and her beau snuck out to the barn.

The pastor went to his knees in prayer
when he realized that Jane was gone.
Jane and her beau snuck out to the barn –
and the whole little town knew by dawn.

When he realized that Jane was gone,
her brother went after his shotgun.
And the whole little town knew by dawn –
more than the steeple fell down

Her brother went after his shotgun,
but Jane’s beau was as quick as rain.
More than the steeple fell down.
The sun will shine on them no more.

But Jane’s beau was as quick as rain.
He disappeared into the shadows.
The sun will shine on them no more,
for a stranger sold Jane to the devil.

He disappeared into the shadows,
while the town rang the church’s old bell.
For a stranger sold Jane to the devil,
Jane's the only one who's going to hell.

While the town rang the church’s old bell,
The people held onto their children.
Jane's the only one who's going to hell.
The wind blew into the little town…
