"Invalid Item" Rhiannon was a Moon Goddess, who had been promised for marriage to an older man, but she refused and chose a mortal prince named Pwyll. She left the enchanted land of the Fey to be with the man she loved. They had a son who was kidnapped, but the blame fell on Rhiannon as she was framed by the maidservants who had fallen asleep instead of watching the boy. They smeared the blood of a puppy on Rhiannon as she slept and scattered the bones around her bed to make it look like she ate her own child. She was sentenced to 7 years of carrying visitors to the castle from the outer gate on her own back, while announcing her crime. My sister of the Moon, let me walk with you, share this millstone of innocence, for you were convicted by ignorance, betrayed by a badger – a suitor spurned. But if you can forgive those who condemned you, shouldn’t we all? You relinquished your silver towers in the Lake, renounced your basket of abundance, your white mare and magic to descend to mortality; bore a child only to bear misguided guilt, heavier than any weight you carry now. A tamed goddess – tethered by the love of a man who could not rise to your defense, but spared your life to assuage his grief. Why is your voice silent when with your sweet song you could lure those guilty to their doom? Your patience erodes my doubts but still the questions I ask myself are too formidable to answer; though my burden is different, the pain is equally piercing. I stumble, and you support me; holding my arm as a devoted proselyte when it should be otherwise. But you’re of the Fairies; you have eternity for justice; wearing ruts in the dust as men ride you – I am not so fortunate or forgiving, the blood was my own. |
