A sanctuary for weary writers, inky wretches, and aspiring professional novelists. |
Don't be embarrassed or ashamed. What you're experiencing is one of the worst feelings I can think of. It's terrible to want to write and simply not be able to. Actually, until very recently, I was feeling the same way as you. I've found that little things help a lot. I entered a contest called "15 for 15". Everyday you're given a picture as a prompt and must write for 15 minutes. It sounds simple, and it really is. 15 minutes seems like a lot at the start, but eventually you get going and suddenly half an hour has passed. The point is: you just gotta go for it. It's really hard (I know, I'm experiencing it right now), but once you get going you're fine. It's like a bike. You never forget. Granted, these 15 minutes experiments only get me a couple hundred words, but it's something. It's just like exercising. You can't run for 4 hours straight on the first day, even if once in your life you could. You have to get back into it slowly and gradually. Hope this helps. And don't worry- it's not terminal. ____ "Eat a good breakfast men, for we'll all be dining tonight in hell." - King Leonidus the 20th of August 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae |
