TOR is a class act, no doubt. My publisher is a corporate cousin (or sister house, depending on the perspective) of TOR. If there is a knock on TOR, it's their reputation for notoriously slow turnarounds on submissions. However, if you know this going in, the wait is a bit easier to take.
As one might expect, TOR also has a daunting slush pile (unsolicited manuscripts). And a slushkiller. Teresa Nielson Hayden, an extremely gifted TOR editor, is co-owner of Making Light, a website devoted to the craft of writing. In early 2004, she wrote an article entitled, "Slushkiller."
