That's not accurate. Interactive items (polls, forums, In & Outs, etc) will be updated when posted to, as well as any items which allow edit access by other members.
To see updates by your favorite authors, go to My Favorites, and then Items By My Favorite Authors. You can change the view to newest first to see new additions to their ports.
