The one thing I've learned about research is, no matter how much you do or how well you do it, in fiction anyway, someone will always be able to poke holes in it because, quite frankly, you sometimes do have to play a little fast and loose with the facts.
The one thing I've learned is, if I can get it past my writing group, it will sail past the majority of the reading public, too. With only one exception, the members of my writing group are research junkies, too, and they all have different areas of knowledge and expertise. If none of them say, "Whoa. Wait a minute. What's this on page four? That would never happen" then I'm pretty safe.
