Mod Space industrial offices. Nash's sponsor. Something else on wheels that didn't go anywhere.

Nash breathed in, breathed out. Squealing tires, engines roaring, like buzzing bees and thunder, only louder, louder.

Nash breathed in. He turned the steering wheel. Breathe out. Pressed the break. Breathe in. Clutch, shift, gas. Breathe out.

The cars go in a circle. 'Round and 'round. They could go two hundred miles an hour. But where were they going to?

Breathe in. Break. Breathe out. Clutch, shift, gas.

Nash held his breath. She was gone. She hadn't cried that night, the night she left him. She wanted to hide her fear. Nash let go of his held breath.

Breathe in. Press the gas. Breathe out. Turn the steering wheel.

Going in a circle.

Two hundred miles per hour.

Not going anywhere.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.

The old man was yelling in his ear about his next move, refusing to tell him his placement in the race but he could tell from the old man's voice that there was a very good chance of winning today. Nash is a good driver. One of the best.

Breathe in. Steer. Breathe out. Break. Breathe in. Clutch-

The car jerked forward and to the right, his body moved. He couldn't see. Screaming, in his ear. The shriek of metal, of growling engines, the smell...

Nash was in a tailspin. His instincts took over and he took his foot off the pedals, took his hands off the wheel to let the car settle down from its spin. He held his breath. Metal, screeching. Rubber, burning. Engines, roaring.

"No! No! Nash! Nash! Nash, answer me!"

But it was like things were fading. He couldn't hear the old man's voice anymore. He wasn't scared, his heart wasn't pounding.

The car finally slowed down. Finally, the car stopped spinning. Nash stopped spinning.

Nash.... Nash?"

Was that-?

"Nash!"

Her voice. Her voice was strong and clear, certain. Not unsteady with emotion and fear, like the last time. Now it was almost joyful.

"Nash, I love you."

"I love you too." Suddenly, Nash was joyful, too.

Never had going in circles taken him so far.
