A Campfire With Megan to Celebrate Poetry Month & To Celebrate Our 10 Year Anniversary
[Introduction]
We will write about flowers and anything that comes to mind. When it is my turn I will write a poem and then I will give you a word. You can use it in your poem or not.

This will be a free and open campfire that we can write in. I hope you join me. *Heart*

This is for me and Princess Megan Snow Rose Author Icon to write in.

Ten years ago (almost to the day) on April 14, 2005, we started our first campfire with:

Poem or Paragraph Prompt Campfire Open in new Window. (18+)
Experimental Campfire of Two Writers - Using Word Prompts COMPLETED 2007

That's pretty amazing!
Bradford Pear Tree

The blossoms linger into April
Gentle winds carry them to my deck
Looks like snow, but the air is fragrant
Cardinals gather and woodpeckers peck

Another Spring has snuck up on me
Heavy winter has taken its leave
Let go of anger, find expression
For December I will never grieve

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Megan, the word is "blossom", but it can be either a poem or a nice paragraph, whichever you prefer. *Heart*
I can't wait to see the flowers blossom.
I am waiting to see the red robin and I
don't mean Red Robin restaurants.
Red robin comes home, he sings of spring!
Welcome home red robin!
The grass is green and winter is gone.
It is warm and I dress in cool, colorful clothes.
I am ready to plant my flowers.
No snow, just a gentle rain and promises
of fun filled activities and carefree days,
I will be smiling and happy. Thank you
God for the beautiful days of spring and summer!
Your Word is: Gentle
Emerald Pastures
Emerald pastures carpet my dreams,
Grazing next to incandescant streams
Search the hillside, seeking a sign,
Ireland at daybreak, green and fine
Rainbow pathway leads to my rest,
Gentle music soothing the quest
My burden down forever, at last, in this land,
Connemara majesty, quiet and grand
~~~~~~~~

Megan, your word is "emerald". *Heart*
When I think of emerald, I think of Ireland
and how beautiful and green it is from what
the videos I have seen on TV. It also reminds
me of Celtic times and an emerald is beautiful.

I have an emerald and diamond ring that I love.
I think of Oz and Emerald City. It would be fun to visit.
Yes, it is fictional and I think I had better avoid the
wicked witch and her sister. I can just dream.

Emerald. Everything green. It is a pretty color.
I think of green tea but I don't care for the taste.
Wearing green on St. Patrick's Day but let's just
call it emerald. It sounds nicer and luxurious.

Your Word is: Diamond
Diamond Hooves

Don't give me any pencils,
Dull and without point,
A pen will do quite nicely,
My poetry to annoint!

Some jewelry there you dangle,
Token, sort of blue
No Cubic Zyrconia
Only diamonds for my hooves!

It's not that I am spoiled,
Only want the best,
No second rate pretenders,
pencil pushers are the rest!

So, comes the Easter Bunny,
Bringing me a treat!
In eggs he tries to hide them,
Chocolate candy, rich and sweet!

Hopping up the avenue,
Baskets in his paws,
Now what were you expecting?
It's not time for Santa Claus!

So, bring me something, rabbit!
Quick! Before it melts!
Don't start my mind to thinking,
Of hats made from bunny pelts!

Just kidding, Easter Bunny!
My true friend, always!
Know how to make me happy?
Hop into my barn - we'll play!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Megan, your prompt is Easter Bunny
I love your poem.
The Easter Bunny is on his way.
Is his name Peter Cotton Tail?
He wears a blue jacket and
who can resist those big brown eyes?
Chocolate bunnies. My favorite treat!
Beautiful colored eggs piled in a basket.
Candy treats, stuffed bunnies, dolls for the girls,
toy cars and trucks for good little boys.
The Easter Bunny delivers his goodies.
He stops by each garden he passes and
grabs a carrot or two. No chocolate for him
but he does like other vegetables to eat.
Happy children on Easter Day eating candy.
They hunt for eggs and get prizes and treats.
The Easter Bunny relaxes and waits for next year.
Thank you Bunny Dear for your delicious treats!
Chocolate Bunny Emergency
My chocolate bunny lost an ear
I cannot find it
Never fear!
I'll look high and I'll look low
I need a doctor
To fix it so
What's that smeared upon my face?
You may well ask
Never mind, let's run a race!
Megan, your word is smeared
Smear. I think of chocolate smeared on a child's face. Politics with a smear campaign of government officials that turns ugly. Some women smear their lipstick all over their face. Smear. It is such a messy word. Remember finger painting as a kid? What a smeared up mess! I love smeared chocolate best.
Your word is: Painting
I used to go to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. It is a beautiful place and the home of many amazing paintings. I would go there and sit and look at the paintings. It had a very calming effect. I also did this once while visiting Paris in the late 1970's. I went into the Jeu de Paume Museum to see quite a few of Monet's beautiful paintings. That was a horrible trip, but going into that Impressionist Museum was the best part of the whole thing.
Happy Easter, Megan!
Your word is "voyage".
I went to the Art Museum in Washington, D.C. I love art. Voyage. I think of "Star Trek" and "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea." There is sea voyages. A cruise ship trip might be nice but I would want to go to Alaska to see whales, bears and moose. I see enough farm country. I can go online and goggle places that I would like to see so that would be nice. It would be like being there almost. Voyage to your mind is always nice, too. That's why I write. Until next time.
Your Word is: Country
I don't live in the country. I live in a city, but a small one. The good thing about living in the city is that so far the power doesn't go out for long, because we are on the same grid as the close-by hospital. Now that I say that, it will probably go out for days.
The country, with cow pastures, is close by. I can drive 8 miles and see cow pastures on my way. I used to drive by a lot of cow pastures when I lived up in Maryland. From where I lived to drive to my mom's from 2003-2006 was about 46 miles. I would always count the cows on the way to and from her house.
If I won the lottery, I would buy a place south of here where it isn't so cold in winter time.
Your word is "lottery", Megan. If you won the lottery, what would you do?
If I won the lottery, I would quit my Nursing job. I would help out all my family and friends. I would have a house in Washington State by Forks and a house by Lake Michigan or the ocean. I would go to England and stay in Bath and learn more about Jane Austen. I would send money to all the pet organizations and start my own animal shelter. I would have my own publishing company and publish the rest of my stories and poems. I would put a lot back just in case. I would use it wisely to help others.
Your Word is: Publish
I guess I could say this (Writing.com) is the only place I publish now. I have written a lot of stuff and if my family wants to formally publish it after I die that is fine with me. I don't think I am meant to formally publish in my lifetime. I just don't see it happening. I am not sure my stories are anything anybody else would pay to read at this time really.
I dreamt about it for a while, but then my fragile feelings got a little trampled and stepped on. I figure if anything ever comes from my writing it will be more after my demise.
The novel, Sara's Port was meant as a sort of gift to the site anyway since it is about Writing.Com/Stories.Com in its early days.
This could all change if I get back to writing. I wrote a bunch of novels in about three years time before I quit writing stories so there all here packed away waiting for me to get out of the way I guess! *Laugh*
Your word is "review"
Review. I do reviews here and I get reviews here. I always hated the word review when I was in school because it meant going over the same things over and over. Movies get reviews and I don't go by reviews. If I like the preview, the actors and story line, this is how I decide if I want to see a movie. The same with book reviews. If I like the author and story line, this is a book that I want to read. Reviews are helpful and important here. I do reviews all the time.
Your Word is: Story
I like to think of stories. Sometimes I think I can't think of anything and a story will come into my head. Then, I write it down and I play with it until it is how I want it to be.
Last year I wrote a story that was one of the best things I ever did here.
I got some really nasty reviews for it, although most of the reviews were nice. It was the nasty ones that really stung.
Certain people who reviewed it hadn't read the work by the author that it was referring to, although some pretended they had.
I think that if you have a story inside, a person should tell it, but don't expect readers to understand things about it that the writer understands. My story is my story. It may not be some so and so's taste, but it is mine and someday someone will read it who gets it. That is what I tell myself.
It is hard work to recover from having a good story flop with the unwashed masses, though.
Your word is "reading".
I do a lot of reading. I had to go to a town 40 minutes away from me to see my Doctor and drop off papers at another Doctor's office so I spent 2 hours at Barnes and Nobles. I read a free book about Jane Austen on my Nook and I looked at other books. I caught up on my reading. I spend a lot of my time on my Smart Phone playing games and neglecting my reading. I have been reading my Prayer book lately, my Soap Magazine, Bible Passages and I am reading a Jane Austen Tea book about Jane, her characters and tea. If you write, you read. Reading and writing go hand in hand. We have to have them. I am glad I enjoyed Reading Class in grade school. I loved writing, too. They are important.
Your Word is: Important
Sorry for the delay!
I think it is important that any community stay open to fresh ideas. There is too much of the clique atmosphere going on.
I did an experiment and found that it is very hard to break through some of the rigid networks that exist on this site.
I don't think it is right or healthy to behave as if only certain people matter. Everyone should be treated as important and with courtesy.
You see it at times when you have friends who leave. It is very hard to be left without friends anywhere.
But if you preservere and have faith you can be successful.
I had counted on the Contest Newsletter to help me promote my contest. Well, I keep looking and I don't see my contest. Is that fair? Is that right?
My rant is over for the day. I will await next week's Contest and Activities Newsletter with hope in my heart, prepared for the worst.
Your word is "rant" *Heart*
I work in mental health and my patients will rant {talk loudly and be unreasonable} and sometimes the staff is, too. Some people need to vent and I guess if ranting does it for them, let them. Just as long as it doesn't turn violent. I like peace myself and I will state my point if I am mad then walk away and forget about it. I hope anger management helps people. Ranting isn't a solution.
Your Word is: Point
Point me forward
When I lag behind
Obstacles greet me so unkind
Won't a friend appear my wounds to bind?
Point me skyward
When I fall so low
Cruel bullying a fateful blow
Mob rule wins tomorrow's show
Point me homeward
So I can lay my head and die
Make a bed on which I long to lie
My dreams at last will touch the sky
Megan, your word is "sky"
I love to look at the sky,
so pretty, calm and blue.
The birds are singing.
Here comes a dark cloud.
Here come more dark clouds.
Now, it starts to sprinkle and drizzle.
Now, a big rain is happening.
It's a thunderstorm but it isn't bad.
The storm has stopped. It is all calm.
The sky is blue and so pretty again.
It is April, so this is the weather.
Summer will soon be here.
I am so ready for summer.
I want to plant my flowers.
I want to go to the lake.
This will be the summer of me!
Your Word is: Lake
To graze my day away,
Can't imagine much that's better
To amble down a path to a lake,
And maybe write a letter.
To write my night away,
Can't imagine much that's finer,
My tail swishes as I think,
I don't want to be a whiner.
Megan, your word is "impatiens"
I sat by a bridge writing a story-
a beautiful day of looking at impatients-
in colors of red, pink and purple.
Canadian geese flying around.
It is a nice, calm day.
The river is brown and
I wish it was a pretty blue like
the Caribbean but it is peaceful.
Sun shining down on me.
A nice warm breeze and
no rain. Just a perfect day.
I get up to leave. Time to clean house.
Your Word is: Colors
I dream in glorious colors
I see my mother's eyes in my dreams.
They were a bright, light cornflower blue
But what is the color of silence?
I hear my mother's voice in my dreams,
It is a lovely quiet melody.
I wish I could see her
I wish I could hear her
She lives in on the colors of flowers
She lives on in the sound of music,
Her favorite movie
Not a day goes by that I don't think of her
My wonderful mother who I lost
So long ago...
Megan, your word is :April
April showers bring May flowers
It is National Poetry Month.
I am trying to write poems this month
but I write stories and Blog entries mostly.
April is the latter part of spring,
I have yet to see a red robin.
I see yellow birds, canaries, crows,
sparrows and birds with blue on them.
The temperatures are getting warmer,
We do get rain and thunder sounds,
The grass is getting green and yes
some flowers are growing.
Here's to a great summer.
Sunny days, going to the beach,
reading, writing, scrapbooking
and watching movies and old TV Shows!
Your Word is: Blog
When I look back at blog entries I see a lot of my failings.
My opinions really are insignificant in the big scheme of things.
I am feeling rather defeated and sad right now.
Megan your word is roses.
I love red roses, pink ones and lavender, too.
My love is like a red, red rose.
A rose is my favorite flower.
I wish I could grow them.
I got a rose after my cataract surgery.
I got roses for Valentines Day and a
a dozen for my 25th Wedding Anniversary,
a special surprise from my husband.
I wish a rose a day could keep the Doctor away.
Roses are a comfort and a healing thing.
A symbol of love and oh, how can I forget that
they are beautiful as well.
A rose by any other name would still be a rose.
Lavender ones are rare but I got some in the hospital.
Roses are my friend. I love to smell them.
May your life be good like a beautiful rose.
Your Word is: Symbol
Looking for a symbol of hope,
As I read my way along
I found myself running out of rope,
A voice started singing a song
I was distracted from my book,
As I read my way along
I ran to get a final look
It all seemed so frightfully wrong
I was transported to a different time,
As I read my way along
Ms. Austen's words were a noble sign
Crowds gathered in a throng
I was confounded by my fears
As I read my way along
And, so they passed along those years
My mind finished up quite strong!
Megan, your word is "Austen"
Jane Austen. My favorite author of long ago.
"Pride and Prejudice" and Emma are my favorites.
I am totally absorbed with her and her great writing.
I strive to be as good as an author as her. I truly do.
I display my Jane Austen tea set proudly and read
the book written about her, tea and her characters.
I have a lot of sequel books of her novels that I
read ever so faithfully and strive to learn more.
Jane. She is quite an icon. In England, she is a more
important figure then Darwin and more prominent then
the Bronte sisters even though I enjoy reading their novels.
Jane Austen is on a pound note. What a honor in her name.
My dear Jane Austen books are displayed in my room addition
in my book case along with her movies from her novels.
Mr. Darcy is a man to admire even though he is fictional.
Maybe he was real and Jane knew him personally.
I have my own Jane Group here at WDC.
I write stories with her in mind and think what
would Jane do or what would she write?
I already know. A part of her lives within me.
Your Word is: Within
Within this moment I exist,
But I will soon be in the wind
Time is leaving with a kiss
It's license to rescind.
Within this day I cry,
But I will soon be in the mist,
Breath is leaving me to die,
I fight and clench my fist
Within this year I demand,
But I will soon be dust,
My voice, empty command
My shiny turned to rust.
Within this decade I endure,
But I will soon take my leave
Dogs bark and Kitties purr
The ones that truly grieve.
Megan, your word is "forward"
Forward. I think of fast forward on my DVD and VHS Tapes. Forward March! I don't have much ambition for that. Pay It Forward here. Forward an e-mail to someone. Forward and straight ahead. You can have your mail forward. This is just an interesting word. I can't think of much.
Your Word is: Think
I did not think,
I did not know
The sky was gray
My pulse was slow
I did not wish
I did not stay
The rain continued
All that day
I did not hope
I did not care
Just leave me be
Try not to stare
Megan your word is "raindrops"
I love to watch the raindrops fall,
I also enjoy the smell of a fresh rain,
It is soothing, relaxing and so comforting.
I could watch it rain all day and be happy.
I want just enough rain to make things grow.
No flooding or mudslides of any kind.
No severe or threatening storms, either.
Just a nice, gentle rain to cleanse the land.
I love to sleep listening to rain.
I think of songs that mention rain.
As a kid I didn't like rain. As an adult,
I understand why we need the rain.
I welcome the rain and I really love
a rainbow afterwards. A beautiful site.
It is almost summer and there will be more rain.
Rain gives us beautiful flowers and green scenery.
Your Word is: Scenery
The most beautiful scenery I ever saw was along The Connemara in Ireland. It is the beautiful area along the West Coast. The highest mountain is Croagh Patrick where St. Patrick climbed and did his thing, fasting. At the base of Croagh Patrick is a little gift shop (open weird hours on various days) and the National Famine Memorial. You have to see it to believe it - it is a skeleton ship.
The neat thing about driving there is that there was virtually little to no traffic. Last time we visited was 2006 and I hope it hasn't changed. Sheep and cows would literally block the road, but you just wait them out. I would wait them out and take pictures of them.
I believe that some day I will be in heaven and it will look exactly like this area of Ireland. At night we would eat a great dinner and go into a pub there in the town of Westport, and hear one of the Chieftains (Matt Malloy) play tin whistle and flute as he sat right beside us.
I imagined a lot of scenery, but none so beautiful as Ireland to the West.
Megan, your word is "Ireland"
I hear Ireland is one of the most beautiful countries ever.
I have seen videos of it and it is a beautiful green. I would love to see it.
High hills and cliffs stand tall above the ocean and does Ireland proud.
I would like to see shamrocks and a leprechaun and his pot of gold.
Celtic Thunder sings a song about Ireland and I find myself singing it.
I have a Celtic symbol necklace, a gift from my cousin. I respect and
admire the Celtic women and I think of Celtic Goddesses. It is a culture
that sadly is gone but they leave behind mementos that they were here.
I hear the cows have big fuzzy feet and look a tad different then the cows
we have in America. Cows have bad sad eyes and I don't eat much meat.
Cute small modest cottages and I am sure there is a castle or two.
Ireland. It is one of my places to see someday. When can I leave?
Your word is: Cottage
Adare cottage
Calls to me
From Ireland
Way across the sea
I'll fly away
Maybe in my dreams
Limerick beauty
part of my schemes
Home at last
beside the green
Herd moos to me
Beyond the stream
Find some peace
Thatched cottage roof
I'll be so free
my cat so aloof
Hard to get
Yes, that is me
When we linger forever
in Ireland free
Megan, your word is "limerick"
I don't know how to write a limerick.
I know they are meant to be funny
and rhyme and keep time. I just threw
that in about time but got your attention.
I wrote limericks in school but I forget
how to write them. They are short.
I have my own style when I write poems.
I don't follow a pattern. I just write.
If you write limericks, send them to me.
I will get the idea and maybe get brave
and write some of my own. On this parting
note, write a limerick that rhymes and makes one laugh.
Your Word is: Brave
Here is one
Fearful hooves limerick
A challenge was issued to be brave,
I galloped inside the nearest cave
Afraid am I to see
What my result may be
To my fears I am, as yet, a slave!
Megan, your word is "carnation"
I think of carnation,
I think of instant breakfast,
I think of reincarnation or a
pink or red pretty flower.
I think of a coronation,
Yes, I just changed one letter.
One letter can make a difference.
Just like scrabble or Upwords.
Games. Game Of Thrones.
Game of love. games are fun.
How did I get to games?
Give me a nice red carnation!
Your Word is: Difference
I saw no difference that mattered,
Yet, in the end I was quite shattered
Retrieved my pride, I meandered off
My heart in pieces, feelings quite soft
Survived to fight yet another day
Bitter demands haunt me on my way
And so, you see I didn't survive
Alas, this bull no one tried to revive
Megan, your word is "locket"
I have a locket with my son's baby picture.
I have a locket with pictures of "Twilight's"
Edward and Jacob. I have a Thomas Kincaid
locket with a etched lighthouse on it.
Lockets can hold a lock of hair or pictures.
They can be heart shaped, book shaped or oval.
I had a Lucky Lockets Kiddles with a doll in it.
I have a Black Oaks gold locket that can hold pictures.
A locket can be a precious heirloom or hold memories
we hold dear and wear next to our hearts or to compliment
a certain dress or a pretty blouse we love to wear.
A locket is like a scrapbook we wear and memories we treasure.
Your Word is: Heirloom
My heirloom is a quilt lovingly made by hand. This is a true story in this poem:
The Quilt
Unfold your arms and listen well,
My quilt has quite a tale to tell
Many years ago on an Iowa farm
They made it to keep safe and warm
The house caught fire the year I was born
Burned to the ground, electrical storm
They saved the quilt for me to cherish
And so I will until I perish!
Megan your word is "quilt"
I love quilts with wolves on them.
I have a quilt made out of "Wizard Of Oz"
blocks that are movie stills and it made up nice.
My mother made this and the material was hard to find.
I have bed spread quilts and my husband likes these.
I have never made a quilt. I don't have the talent or the time.
I see quilts at the farm show every year. Some have nice farm
scenes on them with a barn and a cow and sometimes a horse.
Quilts are expensive but a lot of work goes into one.
I will enter a raffle for a quilt but I never win.
Women made quilts for centuries and I guess this
is what they called a quilting circle or sewing circle.
I have seen contests for Quilting Bees and this is a contest
to win a prize for the prettiest and best made quilt.
I will just made a quilt on sale at the store even though it
isn't hand made, it still looks pretty on the bed.
Your Word is: Centuries
Several centuries have passed since the United States was born.
I am alive in two of those centuries. My Dad only lived in one century as he died in 1995. My mom lived through two centuries until 2005. Two of my grandparents were born in the 19th century, but my Dad's parents were born and died in the 20th century like he did. My Dad's dad was only gone for 11 years when my dad died. Two of my Dad's siblings died in childhood of childhood diseases before the age of 6. But, of the ones that grew to adults, my Dad was the first of the remaining 8 to die. Two of his sisters and one brother have died since he died. He has 4 siblings remaining.
My mother's death was followed by her eldest granddaughter's death only about 6 years later in 2011. My mother has a younger sister living who is 92 and very healthy and independent.
I don't think I'll be here for the next century to come and I wonder what it would bring. If you told someone in 1915 that there would be an Internet in 100 years I bet they would have been very confused. I guess a lot of things would have been confusing to them that we take for granted today.
My mom used to be amazed at how ridiculous people looked, blabbing on their cell phones in public places. If she was still alive and could see all the texting/driving, texting/walking, she'd really think the country was full of a bunch of morons.
I first joined Writing.Com in 2000. Is this the 20th or 21st century. I am never sure about that one at the beginning. I could be on this site for two centuries, but just barely. 4Provinces is totally 21st century.
Megan, your word is "invention"
Congrats on the Awardicon!
Invention. I wish I could invent a pill that takes of every illness. I wish I could invent a self cleaning house. Inventions makes our lives easier. Our lives will never be perfect but inventions are great. I hate to think we would live like cavemen all our lives. Would we want to use kersasene and candles all our lives? Where would we be without computers and Smart Phones? I could go on and on but I am sure we all glad that inventions came about and still do. I would never want life to be worse.
Your Word is: Lives
Congrats to you too! What a cool thing for our campfire!
Lives.
I think our lives are longer because of indoor plumbing. That was a really good invention.
I do not have a smart phone. I have a cell phone that is very basic and I do not text. I am stuck, in some ways, in the past.
I love the computer and I love Netflix. I love DVDs and amazon.com and of course Writing.Com!
I love that I can see my grandsons in pictures and videos on the computer.
Life back in the 1980's seems so much simpler doesn't it? That was when everything happened big in my life - the 80's.
I read Sue Grafton's mysteries because they are set in the 80's.
Megan, your word is "mystery"!
The Lochness Monster is a mystery.
Like who old is she? Will she live forever?
Will we ever see her face to face instead of
just a picture of a sighting of her here and there?
Some attics hold important letters and valuable-
items that can be linked to a mystery or a secret.
You meet people who seem to have a certain mystery
about them. You would love to know their story.
I don't read murder mysteries because I like hearing
strange, mysterious things about people. I admit I
used to read Nancy Drew mysteries. No one died
and the stories were good and held my interest.
Mysteries makes us curious as humans and detectives
must really enjoy their jobs. I would rather read about
strange, spooky events and watch TV Shows.
I am just content to write and be in a fantasy world.
Your Word is: Lochness
Loch Ness is Scotland, right?
I have been watching Outlander, which was filmed in Scotland. It looks like Ireland and there is a lot of drinking so maybe the drinking has something to do with seeing Nessie.
I wish I knew more about the legend but I don't. You should check out Outlander, it is a back in time type deal with romance. I think you would like it, Megan.
Your words are "book sale"
Book Sale. I do love a book sale. I spend a lot of time at Barnes and Nobles reading and downloading books on my Nook. I find books on sale and buy them. If you are a writer, you will love books and do a lot of reading. Reading books helps nourishes the mind. A good fictional story can take you there in your mind and give you an adventure. I do love an adventure. If a book costs $40.00 when it first came out and goes on sale for $8.00, this is a bargain and a steal. I hope books will always be around. I would miss them if they weren't.
Your Word is: Nourishes
I wish I could read faster and retain more. I believe what you say, that reading nourishes the mind. We have a big 3 day book sale going on here.
It is at a church. The first day the recent hardbacks were 5$ and other hardbacks were 3$. Today the books were half off. I am not sure how much the paperbacks are, but they are probably less. I got mostly hardbacks.
Tomorrow they have this thing where you go in and get a paper grocery bag and can put all you can carry in one for 10$ total no matter how many books you get. I think that is an unlimited deal, in that I could fill a grocery bag and go to the car and unload it and come back and get another for another 10$. It is a pretty nice deal.
I couldn't really do this book sale for a while because of all my surgery stuff, but this year I could do it. That has been a major accomplishment for me besides getting a lot of bargains on books.
Whenever I have a book I don't want to keep, I give it to this church so I see a lot of my old books there. It is big, they have more than 55,000 books on sale and they do stories for the newspaper and for the TV News about this huge booksale. There is not that much to do here in my town, but this booksale is one of my favorite things. I am glad I am well enough to do it again.
Megan, your word is "accomplishment"
What are my accomplishments?
Two novels that I have written,
diplomas in Free Lance Writing
and Short Story Writing Classes.
I was in Beauty Pageants in high school,
Drama Club, Thespian Society, Annual Staff.
I have won Grand Champion, Champion on
my scrapbooks at the fair and have a Scrapbooking Degree.
Am I bragging? No, not really. I haven't written a
best seller, yet. That would be a great accomplishment.
Being married, having a Nursing job, a son with a PHD.
These are good things to have in my life as well.
Accomplishment is getting your house cleaned,
planting flowers, helping animals, helping people.
being a friend, making a difference, doing a good
deed, being in love, trying to make the world a better place.
As long as we are doing good, believing in God,
trying to follow the rules, be honest, loving and
caring, we can accomplish anything. Be your best
and be a good person. This is the best accomplishment ever!
Your Word is: Believing
Believing
Believing in something
Will carry me through
Trying my best
Is all I can do
Believing hard work
Will carry the day
Slackers slack and take rest
Is all I can say
Believing regardless
You do what is right
Instead they fled like
Two thieves in the night
Believing their motives
Will someday be clear
They didn't delete
So I know they'll reappear
Believing excuses
Is not in the cards
Some will give them their hearts
They shatter to shards
Megan your word is "glass"
We need glass for windows. Glass gives us a clearer picture. We can't forget Alice and the looking glass. I think of Glassglow, Scotland even though I have never been there. I have a glass wicker coffee table and glass coffee table. Glass is pretty. Flowers are beautiful in a glass vase. I think of Blondie's song: "Heart Of Glass." We need glasses to drink out of. Guess glass applies to a lot of things.
Your Word is: Windows
Waiting for Tracy
I watched at the window
Pulling back the shade
You were never coming
Decision all but made
I listened for the car
I didn't even know
You were already gone
Almost four years ago
I waited for your call
Another called instead
My brother could not console me
Voices in my head
I lost all my hope
That dark september night
You left us here alone
Too tired and sad to fight
Another May is almost here
Birthday falls just after noon
The 14th won't escape my notice
I'll see you someday soon
Megan, your word is "May"
Here's to May, glad you're here
as I face hernia surgery.
I hope to get well quickly.
I want to plant my flowers.
I love the rain and
a nice warm summer,
So many things to do.
Beach, zoo, shopping, relax.
May is a gateway to summer.
I welcome it with open arms.
I smile and glad winter is done.
Summer. I am ready. Be my friend.
Your Word is: Gateway
Megan, I hope your surgery this week is a gateway to feeling much better. I will be thinking about you and praying all goes well for your speedy return. Get lots of rest! *Heart*
Your word when you want to and feel like doing it is:
"Recovery"
Hey Carol. I am having surgery next week for my hernia. I will be in the hospital for a few days afterwards. Recovery time is very important. Recovery doesn't happen over night. I wish it did. I trust my surgeon and God. I am not as bad off as I was the last time with a bowel obstruction and this is why I am having this done to avoid the mess I had last time. Here's to a good recovery.
Your Word is: Trust
Megan, I trust everything will be okay. They probably want you in the hospital to just be extra sure everything is okay. I hope your husband can bring you outside food that is so much better than hospital food. Soon you will feel so good to have it all behind you in the rear view mirror.
Megan. Your word is "mirror".
I trust that God and the surgeon will get me through my hernia operation. It won't be an easy operation but it won't be like last time. Last time was bad. I still have concerns. Trust is what we have for family, friends, people we work with and strangers in business and life's situations. In God We Trust. I do. I need reassurance. I have prayer. Trust, love, reassurance, hope and dreams along with God get us through life.
Your Word is: Reassurance
Reassurance is a good thing. We all need it at times. You will get this behind you so you can relax and have a nice summer. I hope everything goes real good and you are feeling better and better after it is over. I don't know what day it is but hopefully you will feel like coming online and letting everyone know you are back and fine.
Megan, if you feel like it the word is "butterfly".
A butterfly flitters around.
Beautiful wings with pretty
vibrant colors. A little guy to
be admired and appreciated
Dolly Patron sang "Love is like
a butterfly." She meant that in a
good way. You see one among the
flowers and they add beauty to nature.
Butterfly necklaces, earrings, sometimes
in clothes. Artists paint them and sometimes
you see them etched on purses and canvas
bags. They are definitely a work of art.
A butterfly starts out as an ugly cocoon.
Their transition is quite a process. When
it is all said and done, a beautiful creature
they do become. I do love and admire a butterfly!
Your Word is: Admire
I go in for surgery Tuesday and I write as long as I can. Thanks, Carol.
Megan, I admire your courage. It is today then and by tomorrow you will be recovering. I think SM is going to switch it to the new site on Thursday so remember it will look different when you log in then.
All my thoughts and prayers go with you today for a positive outcome.
*Heart*
Your word is "hospital"
I was scheduled for surgery today but the hospital couldn't get a hold of the insurance company in time so Pre Certification didn't go through in time. They will call to reschedule. Like seriously. It may be later this week. I am waiting for a phone call. Insurance and hospitals. Don't you just love them? My son called from Minnesota yesterday and this lifted my spirits. He has a Psychologist job there. I am waiting on a reschedule date. Thanks, Carol for thinking of me and being my friend.
Your Word is: Reschedule.
Oh boy, I hate that they are doing that and rescheduling!
Well, let me know. Insurance companies and hospitals are the pits and they never think of what they are putting the patients and their families through. I hope you aren't in discomfort that they could be fixing! I would head butt them all if I could.
I hope they get their act together so you can get it over with and get some peace of mind.
Thinking of you! *Heart*
Your word is "frustration".
Frustration. You got that right. I had to take time off my job and the surgeon said I would be off six weeks but with my surgery being put off until later, I will need an extra week which means an excuse giving me another week off. We need to get this show on the road. I am glad Doctors and hospitals have time to do what ever they want. I wait patiently for them to tell me when my surgery will be now.
Your Word is: Patiently
You wait a lot more patiently than I would do. Well, you will have some time off to recover, that is good.
I hope you get some Netflix streaming set up so you have lots of choices on what to watch while you recover. I sent you a review about one thing called Midsomer Murders you might enjoy because it is set in little quaint Engligh villages. There is a lot of stuff on Netflix to watch while you recover. Mr. hooves had a long - 6 month long - recovery a while back and that is how we got into Netflix.
Plus you can watch things you love to watch and just enjoy this summer.
If I was there I would go over and kick the hospital in the butt and also the insurance idiots. But, hopefully they will get their acts together soon.
Your next word is "Netflix".
I have hears about Netflix and I know
they offer great movies and shows.
Video Places like Blockbusters are no
longer. They tell me Netflix is the way to go.
I love watching movies and shows.
I would save money on buying DVD's.
I could just buy the movies I love and
watch Netflix to see what I would like.
I used to rent four or five movies every weekend.
Some I loved and some I didn't. I miss renting movies.
Netflix. Let's get acquainted. I long to watch the newest
releases and save money from buying movies I don't want.
I have a Smart Phone, computer, DVD Player and a
Nook to read e-books. I save money on books.
Netflix. Sounds good to me. I am a movie buff and
love movies. Netflix. A new way to watch movies.
Your Word is: Acquainted
Get acquainted with rejection,
that's what my writing had to do
It wasn't easy does it,
They told me my writing was poo
I dusted off my ink pen,
Put my noggin to good use
Back to the drawing board I go
Then submit for more abuse.
Megan, your word is "critic"
Everyone's a critic.
I never listen to movie
critics. I know what I want
to see and decide for myself.
People criticize others.
Could they do better?
Show us, dont' criticize.
Make an improvement.
I try not to be a critic,
I try to be fair and more
understanding. I try to be
a friend. I don't want to be a critic.
Your Word is: Improvement
Two days late on my surgery. I am waiting on a phone call to reschedule my surgery. I hope it is soon.
I hope the place you are going shows some improvement and lets you know when and sticks to their schedule.
Once you get it behind you, the surgery, then you can focus on the recovery.
Well, they do not understand how much stress stringing a person along can cause of they wouldn't do it. I hope you aren't in a lot of pain,
Spring is better than winter for having surgery because it is easeier to get to and from the hospital if there isn't a lot of snow going on.
Your word is "Winter".
I am glad winter's over. It was snowy and cold and hard to travel. I am in stress waiting on a surgery date. I am going to call and keep after them. I have to have a date for this. I hope I am not in much pain afterwards. A nice spring day. I just saw a robin and it is 80 Degrees. Maybe this is a sign of a good day and good news.
Your Word is: Sign
Signs of spring are all around
Strawberries are there to be picked
I hope that they get with it so you can have your surgery and get it over with.
It is not good to have a person in so much stress when they are going to have surgery.
What does your doctor say about all these scheduling delays?
Can he/she intervene?
I would think that if they are doing this to you, they're doing it to everybody.
We are a stressed out group, this population.
Enjoy the flowers.
Enjoy the Spring.
Try not to worry too much about that which is out of your hands anyway.
Your word is "Trees"
We have two trees that we planted ten years ago.
One has white blossoms and one has leaves. We
live in the country and surrounded by cornfields.
The grass is so green this time year of home.
Eighty degrees here. Summer is on it's way.
I was looking forward to a nice summer but not if
they get my surgery schedule straightened out.
I will make sure my surgeon hears about this.
I hope to plant flowers next month. Winter wasn't kind.
I pray things will be better in my life and try not be stressed.
I am going to enjoy the nice day and wait for a phone call
about my surgery. Something positive has to happen.
Your Word is: Positive
There are lots of positives, but sometimes it is hard to see them all.
Mr. hooves and I have lived here almost nine years. We lived one other place longer than that by a few months, but it is almost a record.
All the stuff we got new for the house is now 9 years old.
When we moved in, I decided that we wanted a pup, but we took a few months getting her, She will be nine in the Fall.
Since we moved here, he had a heart attack and then 4 abdominal aeortic anuerysm surgeries.
I had back surgery and hip replacement.
But after all that, thank God we are doing good. We walk our dog and we get out there. He plays golf and gardens and even works out with strength exercises.
I can get around pretty confidently, but I have to be careful.
Spring is pretty and life is good. I am grateful that I can still enjoy my reading and writing adventures.
Your word is "Optimistic"
I am optimistic. My surgery is on hold because of insurance.
The Nurse is working on getting my insurance approved.
It is the insurance people not my Doctor and his staff.
I may have my surgery done by next week. I pray I will.
Sounds like you have two have been through a lot, too.
Glad you are done well now. You have your sweet dog.
I have my cat to cheer me up. I would be lost without her.
I hope that things will be looking up. Glad it isn't winter.
My husband and I are going out today. I haven't left the house
in a week. Being glued to the tube just doesn't cut it. I need an
outing. Looks like things might be looking up. I am trying
to be optimistic. Thank you, Carol for being my good friend.
Your Word is: Outing
I hope and pray that everything went well yesterday. I hope your outing to home comes soon and you have a lot of help.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that it is smooth sailing from here on out.
*Heart*
Your word is "recovery"
I am home recovering. It was a large hernia and the surgeon said he could have stuck his whole head in it. Nice image! The nurses were good and six days in a hospital aren't easy but a nice staff and family visits help so much. Hopefully, I will never need another surgery. I am glad to be home for awhile before going back to work. It is nice. My friends have been calling and sending e-mails as well. I am thankful for the good things that happen from bad things.
Your Word is: Thankful
Megan, I am so thankful you are on the mend. I hope the pain is less and less. Hopefully you can relax now and watch some Pride and Prejudice and just enjoy your reading and DvDs.
Hope fully you are not having trouble sleeping from pain.
You words is "rest".
It is nice to get some rest and relax. My husband is doing housework and I watch some TV Shows. I will be watching my DVD's and some of these will be Jane Austen's movies. I will see my Doctor later this week and I know he is taking good care of me. Going to be a sunny day and nice reflections ahead and I am staying positive.,
Your Word is: Reflections
Reflections can be very uplifting.
I try to reflect on my blessings as much as possible, especially when I am upset about something.
Counting my blessings usually helps me to calm down and put things in perspective.
I hope you are feeling better and stronger every day. Maybe if you get stitches out this week, that will help things along. I always feel like I've turned a corner when the stitches come out.
Do you have to have any sort of physical therapy, or is it mainly resting so you can heal?
Your word is "healing".
I am healing. I don't need therapy. I was spared that this time around. Too much physical therapy last time. I will be glad to see the stitches come out. I do count my blessings and pray. My husband is great about helping me. I have one flower planted that I got from Church and this makes me feel cheer. I hope to plant more. I hope I will be able to. I hope to go to the zoo, beach and seagulls flew past my window at the hospital. They fly down from Lake Michigan which is forty minutes away. I love seagulls and I love animals. A seagull is so interesting. I hope to get stronger everyday.
Your Word is: Seagull
It has been a long time since seeing a seagull. Maybe it is more than ten years. I know we haven't gone since we got our pup and she is eight.
Time gets away from me. We used to go to Pawleys Island just south of Myrtle Beach. I guess it might be nine years. There was an alligator habitat near there where we went to watch the gators.
Megan your word is "habitat".
Right now, I am in my habitat since my surgery. Habitat is like a lake or river for fish. Each animal has it's own habitat. It is their place where they live. This is why I get mad when people go to Yellowstone and camp and a bear attacks them, this is their home. You are the intruder. Get out. I am an animal lover and I stick to my standards. I will always be an animal lover.
Your Word is: Standards
It is good to have standards for ourselves to do the right thing. Some of the people who go to the animals habitats only think of themselves. They litter and bother the animals.
If they came in my house and acted like that I'd head butt them.
Well you are 13 now. A teenager.
Megan your word is "thirteen"
Thirteen is an unlucky number. I enjoyed being a teen-ager. I think of thirteen fairies and Maleificent wasn't a bad fairy after all after you see the movie. Friday the thirteenth. We all dread it. All Fridays the 13th aren't bad. I have been here thirteen years at Writing. Things are good here. I need thirteen candles to light my waqy. Got to go look.
Your Word is: Candles
I blow out candles in restaurants because I'm afraid of knocking them over and setting things ablaze.
I guess it is a good thing having a lot of candles in the cake. It means that you stuck with it when you celebrate staying somewhere for a long time or even celebrating birthdays means not giving up.
I may not understand every detail of this game of thrones coming up, but I will try to do my best.
Your word is "perseverance".
Perseverance. I will need patience, strategy and perseverance when it comes to playing "Game Of Thrones." It will keep me on my toes and I hope to help my team win for "Blog City." Getting al healed from surgery isn't an over night thing. I think I am playing "Survivor." I need to out wit, outlast, outplay, heal and do my best to win. I am going for the gold and the prize.
Your Word is: Strategy
I think that I don't know how to formulate a good strategy.
I am not smart enough to maneuver when people are being sneaky. When I take people at face value a lot of times they connive and let me down.
Someone invited me to enter their contest and no judge even reviewed me. I did my best and was honest. I have to let it go.
Your word is "maneuver"
I will need to do maneuvers when it
comes to the "Game Of Thrones."
This will be a challenge and I will
give it my best shot and help my team.
We use maneuvers in our life and this
means, health, everyday living and what
ever problems comes up and we have to
face. I am the Queen of my castle with my kitty.
I am up to face another day and get on with my life.
It may rain today and I still have three weeks off to heal.
I see my Doctor tomorrow and get a progress report.
Here's to a good day and another day of healing.
Your Word is: Progress
Progress is something we can measure over time.
Sometimes things get better so slowly that we don't realize it is happening.
Truth is revealed as we progress. You may start out thinking one thing, but time shows where our judgment might have been faulty.
I will be away for a time and maybe when I return I will have a fresh perspective. Then the games will have started.
Your word is"perspective".
I have a good perspective about getting well. I have some scrapbooking that I want to do. I have movies to watch. I did watch "Austenland" yesterday. I hope to retire in a couple of years and just stay well. Being summer helps lifts one's spirits. I will be back to being me soon. Look out world. I will be back.
Your Word is: Spirits
I guess it is true that we control our spirits. It sounds like your recovery time is progressing very well. My spirits are better now that I am back home safe and sound. I have to get nice rest to recover from traveling. I hope to do that.
Megan, your word is "travel".
Travel. I don't get many chances to travel. My sister lives in Florida and me in Indiana. I go to Frankenmuth, Michigan to the Christmas Store every 2 years. With my recent surgery, I won't be traveling this summer. I hope I can travel and go somewhere next year. With airplanes and everything, I don't do well with flying. I will if I have to fly.
Your Word is: Flying
Flying is something I have done a lot, but it definitely scares me. I think it is the loss of control and trusting someone else (a pilot) to know what they are doing and to do it properly.
Without flying I probably would not ever have visited Ireland or any of Europe, though. I think going to Ireland was definitely worth the fear and the experience of it. Would I do it again? I probably would if the situation presented itself. It is nice to get somewhere faster than a car gets me there.
It has been nine years since my last flying experience when I went to Ireland in the Fall of 2006. I bet a lot has changed since then. I probably would not know what to do.
We drove up to north of Baltimore this past week. The traffic there was awful. I would prefer to fly there, but I'm still scared. But, you have to go places sometimes to see the grandkids play ball. That was worth it.
Your word is "Driving".
Driving. I don't drive longer then 45 minutes or an hour to get somewhere. I don't do well in traffic. I hate sharing the road with semi drivers. I don't drive well in snow. I don't speed. I am courteous. I don't cut people off. I live in the country and just drive close by areas. My husband does the long driving trips. My car knows the way to work. I hate getting lost. I want to know where I am going. Sometimes I wish I had a flying car like they had in that one Harry Potter movie. I could go anywhere.
Your Word is: Courteous
I'll be courteous and say thank you, Megan!
I'm going to close this out before it gets too long.
*Heart*
The end!
The End!
