A dream of what not to be
[Introduction]
That Won't Be Me

It started off with yelling

And a young voice saying everything is failing.

I then heard a deeper voice

Saying they was sorry they had made the wrong choice.

I looked around to see if I recognized the place

And found myself in some empty space.

I saw a bright glow

And decided that was the path to follow.

As I got halfway down the path

I noticed a room gleaming of wrath.

I headed for the door

Hoping not to run into some horror.

The corridor filled with a terrifying scream

As if a child had seen some sort of fiend.

Directly afterwards came the sound of a slap

Followed by a tremendous crash.

The room suddenly gave off the stench of hate

Accompanied by an envious taste.

I walked into the room

to find things layed astrew.

In the midst of it all was a man

Who was holding a ring in his left hand.

Across the room was a young lady

Craddleing a baby.

I could tell from the sight

They we're in the midst of a fight.

About that time the man gave a loving grin

And said "I've failed you once again.

If i can't be true

I don't deserve to be with you.

For this and other things you can't see

I must now leave."

And as if in cadence

The man began to cry, turned around, and walked out the entrance.

And now that both their hearts were shattered

Things they shared in the past no longer mattered.

Their love was torn apart like a bird from a feather

And they would never again te together.

At the sight of this my body went numb

Because I knew they were done.

I thought it was all a dream

And things couldn't be as they seemed.

I happened to be right

I awoke close to midnight.

As I opened my eyes

And saw you there by my side

I promised myself even when push came to shove

There would never be an end to our love.

I didn't want that man to be me

And I wouldn't allow it to be.

I had another dream in mind

One that allowed you to be everything I've tried so hard to find.

No matter what it takes

Nor how long I must wait,

The woman and child in that dream would be mine

For the rest of time.

The only difference is

The woman will be you and the dream will end with a lot more bliss.

I want you to know I will love you even when you put me through hell

And you will always be my southern bell.
