Two magic schools begin a tournament that escalates into a war. Whose side are you on?
[Introduction]
The Evil

The basic plot of this campfire will be this:

In the land of Lenae, two rival magic schools, Ella Green Orphanage (which doubles as a magic school) and Rosa Mill School set up a tournament. All seems to be going normal until the contestents from Rosa Mill begin to attempt to kill the kids from Ella Green, and the tournament turns into a war. The reason for this is that evil spirits are possessing the Rosa Mill students. The Ella Green students, however, are not aware of this. I will let the campfire develop as it wishes from there. If you have an idea that would be a large plot event in the story, such as the reason for the evil spirits possessing the Rosa Mill students or where the evil spirits come from, please ask me about it first. If it's a good idea, I will let you put it into the story.

Alright, there are eight characters you may choose from, as I have already taken one. If you think of another character, let me know and I'll consider it.

The magic used is a general sort of magic. Not every person has a special power or whatever. Magic is said using spells, many times a spell the person makes up on the spot (spells have to rhyme, like in Charmed). Ghosts, however, have a different kind of magic that I will allow the ghosts to make up.

The first entry will be a character description, using this format:

History: He doesn't remember anything about his past life. He only knows what he was told by Ella Green, the woman who began the orphanage. He died the year Ella turned her manor into an orphanage. She told him that he was a new servant at the orphanage and she didn't know much about him.

Lilith grew up in a well-to-do household in the capital city of Lenae with parents who immediately recognized the potential in their bright only-child and have always encouraged her to work hard to secure her own wealth and power as they themselves had done. He traveled far and wide in search of this power, and aqired much of it. But just before he had attained all of the magic in the whole world, he was killed, never getting the power he wanted. But his power was enough that he was able to ressurect himself, as a ghost. His anger was so great, that he toiled for years coming up with a way to secure all power. He eventually did. He figured out that all spirits have powers, not even most spirits don't know about. Like, the power to suck out magic from anything. So, he became the Spirit king, and took control of all the spiris, and forced them to take control of people, and suck the very magic out of them. He will then use the sucked magic to strenthen himself, until he is powerful enough to rule the world, unparalled. It has taken a long time, but he is very close to having all the magic. He only needs a few more......

18

Personality:
Charlyne is about the kindest person at Rosa Mills...at least until everything started happening. Still, one wouldn't know that she was capable of murder unless one caught her in the middle of her "enchantments". That's what she calls the night time wanderings that usually result in the attempted murder of an Ella Green student.

History:
One of the lucky students, Charlyne grew up in wealth and privilege. When she came to Rosa Mills, she had it all. Recently, though, her closest friends started to notice her bright personality start to fade. Curious, no?

Other:
This girl is struggling with herself. There is a deep feeling inside that she constantly has to fight with in order to maintain stability, mentally and emotionally. Everyone who knows her is concerned.

Isabella Snow had been brought up in the Kingdom of Inick by her Uncle Bryce since her parents’ carriage had tipped over and they had died. She had only been five, and so her uncle was like her father to her by the time she was sixteen.

Her uncle had never been rich. He was only just able to support her with his job at a local produce shop. When the shop went out of business, however, her uncle was left without a job and without a way to support his niece. Jobs were scarce. The Kingdom of Inick was not prosperous. Her uncle told her that he was sure he would be able to find another job soon, but until then he would have to stay with his friend’s family, and there was just no room for the Isabella. Uncle Bryce’s friend, however, sorry that he was unable to accommodate Isabella, mentioned that his sister’s best friend was a teacher at the Ella Green orphanage in the Kingdom of Lenae, and would be able to get her a place there.

The Kingdom of Inick did not support magic. Not the government, but the land itself. Or the air. No one knew why, but magic just did not work in Inick. Some theorized someone had put a curse on the Kingdom. Whatever the cause, Isabella had always bemoaned it, wishing to be able to practice magic.

Lenae was a prosperous, magical Kingdom. Ella Green Orphanage had one of the top magic schools in the Kingdom. It was a wonderful opportunity for Isabella, even if it meant leaving her uncle. She would be able to stay and learn magic there until she came of age at 23.

She was sad to be leaving her uncle, of course, but she couldn’t regret it. It was more like she was going to Boarding School than to an orphanage. And she had always wanted to learn magic.

A carriage came to take her to the orphanage only a week after her uncle lost his job. It took a week to get to the orphanage. Isabella was uncomfortable for most of the trip, but excited enough that she thought it was worth it.

When she arrived at the gates to the orphanage, she could see nothing beyond a small square in the far distance that she figured must be the orphanage. Between the gate and the orphanage was beautiful land - land which she could have appreciated if she wasn’t told that she must walk it.

“You really aren’t going to take us any further?” Isabella asked the driver, trying rather unsuccessfully to keep the whine out of her voice. She had a terrible fear that everyone thought all she did was whine and no one really liked her, but still she couldn’t help herself. Not giving the driver time to answer her admittedly pointless question, she asked, "Is someone coming to get us?"

“I’m not sure, miss,” the driver answered. “The orphanage has strict protection - many of the orphans’ parents had enemies that still wish to come the orphans themselves. I was only screened to transport you; no one screened me for the rest of the orphans, so I can go no further.”

“Why would they need to screen you for us?” Isabella asked curiously. Laughing, she said, “We aren’t rich enough to have enemies.”

“Well, I wouldn’t know anything about that, miss,” the driver said. “I wasn’t told anything but where to take you.”

Isabella sighed, but got out nonetheless. There was nothing else for her to do. The driver got out as well, going to the luggage compartment to take out the trunk she brought.

Isabella stared at the heavy trunk, eyes wide. How was she supposed to carry that all the way to the school? She doubted she could even carry herself that far.

“Oh, don’t worry about that,” the driver said with a wink. “I forgot you come from Inick. I haven’t got any magic in me myself, but I know you do, and I’ve heard the spell enough times. Just say, ‘Luggage that is so hard to carry, Please shrink so here I no longer tarry.’ That should do it for you.”

“But - I've never done magic before,” Isabella protested. Although she was excited to begin doing magic, she knew that she didn’t have the best of luck with trying new things.

“Oh, don’t worry,” the driver said. “It’s a simple enough spell. You can’t mess it up.”

Isabella sighed. “I’ve had plenty of experience messing things up you can’t mess up, though, so no worries, I suppose.”

Isabella didn't stay worried long, however. The next moment she had a cheerful smile on her face.

“Well, then,” Isabella said, “I may as well try it.”

Putting her hands on her luggage, she said, “Luggage is so hard to carry, But I shouldn’t tarry.”

Her trunk flew up into the air and zoomed past her toward the school. Isabella grinned sheepishly. The driver raised his eyebrows and let his breath out in a little, “Huh.”

“Well,” Isabella said. She shrugged her shoulders and began walking in the direction her luggage had gone. “Did the trick, anyway.”

She was halfway there and already beginning to tire. Isabella was about to give in and rest when she saw someone walking toward her. She could soon discern that the figure was male. When she got closer, she saw that he was a little older than her, perhaps 19 or 20. His hair appeared black at first, but when he came closer it proved to be a very dark purple color. His eyes were a stormy gray.

When they were in reach of each other, they stopped. The man held out his hand and gave a polite smile.

“Hello,” he said. “I’m Drake Snow. I’m the Martial Arts instructor here. You are Isabella Snow, correct?”

Isabella nodded, and shook Drake’s hand. “You can call me Zoë, though.”

“I’m here to escort you to the school,” he said. “You came a little earlier than expected. I had to finish my class before I could come. There is an easier way to get to the school. It’s a spell that will allow you to reach the school without becoming tired.”

“Oh, well, I probably shouldn’t try it,” Isabella said, frowning. “I haven’t had much luck with spells so far.”

“Well, you are at a school for magic. You can’t really avoid it," Drake said

Zoë gave a large sigh, but said, “Fine. I'll probably blow myself up this time, but oh well. What’s the spell?”

Drake’s lips twitched. “That was your luggage, then, that came flying at the school?”

Suddenly grinning, Zoë said, “Yeah. I said the spell wrong. Worked, though, didn’t it?”

Drake smiled. "Yes, I suppose it did."

"Anyway, what's the spell?" Zoë asked.

“’I have become much too weary, Make me refreshed so I may walk merry,’” Drake said.

“What if you say something and it rhymes accidentally?” Zoë inquired. “Does it become a spell?”

Drake shook his head. “No. It only becomes a spell if you say it with intent to be a spell.”

“It sounds risky,” Zoë said. “How does the magic know the difference?”

“It just knows,” Drake said. “Don’t let anyone tell you never to rhyme, or that a spell they put on you was a mistake. It never is.”

Zoë nodded, and Drake continued to lead her to the school.

Gabriel was walking to the Headmistress' office, wishing to talk to her on some concerns a few of his ghostly connections outside the school had told him. He could have flown there, which would have been faster, but it was considered rude of ghosts to fly indoors, as it is considered rude of humans to run indoors.

When he reached the door, he paused first and knocked. The headmistress told him to come in and he walked through the door.

"Gabriel," Headmistress Ver said. "Hello."

"Headmistress," Gabriel said. "My contacts have come to me with some rumors that have been circulating."

The headmistress nodded. "I have heard something of this. There is a powerful ghost who seems to be powerhungry, yes?"

"He prefers the term spirit, it seems," Gabriel said. "Some ghosts like to pretend they were never alive, or maybe they never were, so they call themselves spirits. It's the same thing, really. But the point is that this spirit is gaining followers - and not all of them are coming willingly. I fear that he has the power of mind control, and not many are going to be able to escape his grasp. There are rumors that he is the most powerful spirit that has ever been."

The headmistress sat back in her chair with a sigh. "This is more serious that I had suspected, then. Do you know what he is planning?"

Gabriel shook his head. "No. We only know that he is planning something. The spirits that are under his control aren't talking. But there is another concern than him just gaining followers...we fear that he has a very horrible power. It seems he has been growing so powerful because he has been...well, sucking the magic out of others, thus killing them."

"How does he do this?" the headmistress asked, horrified.

"We believe that he has his spirit followers possess other magic users, and he sucks out the magic through them," Gabriel said. "Or something like that, anyway."

"Is the word being spread?" Headmistress Ver asked.

"Yes," Gabriel said. "We are trying to let everyone know, so they can protect themselves. Most, however, will simply not have the means to do so."

The headmistress nodded gravely. "I will triple the protection on the students. I believe he will not be able to possess them as long as they are within the grounds."

"Good," Gabriel said. "But the tournament...I don't think it would be a good idea to continue with it."

The headmistress thought for a moment. "You may be right, but I'm not sure we can stop it. Rosa Mill would be very offended if we didn't go forward with it. You know how they are."

"Well, as long as the contests are fought within the ground," Gabriel said.

"I believe I can arrange that, yes," Headmistress Ver said.

"Alright," Gabriel said. "Good bye, Headmistress."

"Yes, thank you, Gabriel," she said.

Gabriel gave her a small smile and left.
"They intend to go forward with their plan to compete in the tournament?" Lilith Ashton inquired as she sat with Professor Morrison over tea.

"Indeed," the elderly scholar confirmed. "It would seem they are confident Rosa Mill will overcome our present... difficulties... before the Advent Ceremonies." The professor sipped her Earl Grey primly before continuing. "Personally, I share their confidence. Thus far, only our youngest and least disciplined students have succumbed. Yes, the entities appear to be getting stronger with every visitation, but I believe that with more practice, all of Rosa Mill's students shall be able to summon the strength to reclaim their own bodies and minds. Besides, the faculty should soon have devised a solution, or at least some temporary protections. We will soon see an end to these troubles, never fear my dear."

Utterly fearless, Lilith smiled blandly to hide her distaste at the professor's vapid assurances. It would not be that easy, Lilith knew, but she wasn't about to explain that to her poor professor. Carina Morrison was a kindly old woman, and eager to encourage bright students like Lilith in their studies, but she was not, in Lilith's humble estimation, overwhelmingly competent. She did not have the technical expertise to address this problem, and her humble estimation of Rosa Mill's ability to overcome this problem was entirely irrelevant to Lilith.

"Yes," Lilith said politely, more to reassure the elderly professor than out of any true agreement. "And it is most fortuitous that these spirits leave us free with ourselves at times, sometimes even for days or weeks. The first-years I have been tutoring are generally controllable during their episodes, and are quick to recover and resume their studies in between the Interferences. They are tired, though, and frightened. They fear what they might do during these fits."

As though they could truly do anything! she finished derisively in the silence of her own thoughts. So far, none of the spirits but the Spirit Lord had been able to maintain control over their host for more than two to three minutes at a time, and even then, it was clear their weak, inexperienced hosts were able to keep up a struggle for control, so that they engaged in only the briefest bouts of enraged destructiveness and spent the rest of the time twitching and gasping as the battle for control raged on within. The Spirit Lord had conveyed to her that his minions were growing in strength with every Interference, but thus far Lilith had seen only the very smallest improvements. It would take time, the Spirit Lord had taught her, and it was Lilith's job, for the time being, to buy the spirits time to gain a foothold in the bodies and minds of their hosts.

Professor Morrison adjusted her spectacles. "This fear is to be expected. They remember little of their fits, and fear this loss of control. And what of you?" She peered intently across the table at Lilith, who returned her gaze with the most innocuous expression she could manage. "Have you been touched by there phantoms in the days since we last spoke?"

"Only the one spirit, and only the one time," Lilith said immediately. It was only a half-lie she spoke. Only one spirit had possessed her, yes, but their congress had not been limited to that first time a month ago. The Spirit Lord was riding her this very moment, silent but watching in the back of her mind.

"And the paper I've asked you to write on the experience?" the professor asked. "How is it coming along?"

Lilith smiled. "It is complete, professor. I submitted it to your secretary just this morning."

Professor Morrison clasped her hands together. "Excellent! I look forward to reading it. Perhaps in the meantime you would be so kind as to tell me a little about what you wrote?"

"Well," Lilith began with a slow nod, "As you already know, I am the only person in Rosa Mill who has actually conversed with their spirit, let alone successfully forced it to relinquish control. I outlined some of my theories as to the nature and purpose of these entities, as well as some of the techniques I believe may prove effective in fending them off. I found that the entity who contacted me was desirous of the experiences which are only available through the world of the senses. Lacking a corporeal nature, they seek human beings to possess, through which they might experience taste, touch, sight, smell and sound. Their violent behavior is the result of their deprivation and their inability to find an outlet through which to rid themselves of negative emotions or drives. I also explained that only by practicing detachment---by which I mean deliberately isolating ourselves from all but the most unavoidable sensory experiences---might we encourage them to leave. For just as ants leave a place where there is no food, so these spirits will leave a host where there are no experiences."

"Interesting," the professor said. "And I assume it is by putting your theory into practice that you have yourself been free of these Interferences?"

Lilith nodded modestly. "It is so," she lied. "I have struggled to meditate, to simplify my life, to find fulfillment in the world of the mind and abstain as much as I'm able from the world of the senses. I have been unmolested thus far. I am confident that the other students will fare just as well if they master themselves and follow similar practices."

Lies, all lies. She knew full well that experiences were not all the spirits sought, although that was certainly part of it. And sensory deprivation did not discourage them, but rather angered them and caused them to continue their efforts with renewed boldness. But with luck, the researches and later the students would pursue these methods, and their discovery of a real solution would be delayed by weeks, if not months. That would give the spirits plenty of time to gain a foothold in Rosa Mill.

"Fascinating!" the professor explaimed. "I will read your paper this very evening. Perhaps this time the trouble will prove beneficial to our institution in the end. I see already that an impressive piece of scholarship will arise from this struggle. Remember, Lilith, that excellence can be born even of strife."

"Yes," Lilith responded with a pleasant smile.

No, my dear old woman, it's born of wit.
Good Lilith....you are playing your role well... The king of spirts wispered in her head. Now if you'll excuse me, I've some 'errends'... He said as he rejected himself from her mind, and floated off, towards his 'errends'.
It was rather late, as Gabriel walked down a long empty hallway. "Oh my, it's unusually windy tonight..." Gabriel said. For even though he could not feel the wind, he could see it's effects as he walked along the hall. The wind was blowing so hard, it almost knocked over a tree, visable in the courtyard from the hall's windows. Then, suddenly, the wind died. Just stopped, as if some great force commanded it stop. Gabriel realized it, a bit too late. He turned around slowly, and saw none other than the king of spirts.
          "Oh, uh....hey...king..." Gabriel stammered.
"Save it runt, you know why I'm here."
"Uh...and what that be?" Gabriel said innocently.
"You have told others of my existance, potentionally ruining my whole plan!"
"How...do you know that?" Gabriel stammered.
"I have eyes and ears everywhere, there is no excape from the king of spirts!" He shouted, raising his robe encloaked arm into the air. "It seams your mind is rather thick." The King said. "All threats must be assimilated!"
"NO!" Gabriel exclaimed as he ran down the hall.
"MIND GRASP!" The king exclaimed, clenching his fist. Gabriel immeadiatly stopped running, and turned around. "Now then runt, tell me, how you got a hold of all this information?!" "How do you know of my plans and such?" "Who told you?"

Ambrose was just about to start the class when Drake walked in with some girl Ambrose had never seen before. He looked on as Drake seemed somewhat lost in words. Though clearly older than Ambrose, Drake had never had the connection to magic that Ambrose had. But Ambrose merely smiled and waited for Drake to collect himself.

"Excuse me, Professor Kain," he stated. "I didn't mean to interrupt your class."

"Not at all, we were just about to start, but I'm sure it can wait." Drake nodded his head.

"This is our new student, Miss Isabella Snow..."

"Please, call me Zoe," she said, extending her hand to Ambrose. He took it and welcomed her.

"Miss Snow actually has been placed in your class until all has been settled with her things and schedule."

"Very well. Miss Snow, if you'll just have a seat, I'll be with you in just a moment. Thank you, Drake."

Ambrose sat down at his desk quickly and jotted down some quick notes in his journal.

"Now then, Miss Snow, being new here I think it best to explain the system here at Ella Green. As we are about to hold a tournament with Rosa Mill, class time will be shorter than usual in order for preparation in the contest.

"I teach all three levels in Elemental Magics, considering it is my specialty. This class in here now is my Beginners class, which fits nicely with your schedule. You will more than likely have this as one of your classes. You will go through three levels: Beginner, Intermidiate, and Advanced.

"What level you are depends on your ability to master the arts of each level. Once you master a Beginners' level, you will be put in the Intermidiate, and so forth. But enough with explaination. I think it always best to learn through experience, so lets get class started."
Panis walked calmly towards his next class, doing nothing to set him apart from any of the others around him doing the same. He'd been a student at Rosa Mill since his parents had been able to scrounge up the money, largely at his insistence. He still seethed whenever he imagined how much farther he could be in his abilities if he hadn't been forced to start so late. That was in the past, though, and he had no intention of wasting his time now that he was in an environment conducive to magical learning.

He couldn't hold back a smile as the crowd began to thin out. He didn't much care about Ella Green, it was just some orphanage that happened to teach magic to pay the bills. While he couldn't deny that he would have prefered to be born there, where he would already be powerful, than to his poor parents, it was something else that made him smile.

It was a contest.

Word had just found its way to his ear that he would be one of the students representing Rosa Mill. He had been trying to test himself for the year he'd been at Rosa Mill, but there was simply only so much he could do in a classroom. In a competition, though, he could let loose and see what he was really capable of.

"Oh, finally feeling enthusiastic about class, Mr. Torman?"

His teacher and student advisor Valas Fant was nearby, trying to get him to play nice, as usual.

Panis saw no reason to lie about something so trivial. "The upcoming conflict with Ella Green to be specific, and only because I'm not going to restricted in what I can do. If there is one thing you can remember me saying it should be that I want nothing more than to test my powers to their limit. For once, this school is going to let me."

Valas frowned at the tone in his student's voice. "Take it easy there. This isn't exactly going to be a deathmatch you know. The contests are going to be clearly laid out, with clear restrictions as to what is or isn't allowed. You are going to represent the school because of your talent and grades, not because anyone wants to test you. Don't make this out to be a personal challenge from whoever you are put up against from Ella Green. This is about cooperation and friendly competition, and who knows?" Fant finished with a laugh, "You just might lose!"

Panis gave the air before him a look of cold, dangerous determination. He could almost hear another voice laughing as he answered. "Never."
