Wonderful poem that links footprints to bits and pieces of our memories over the years.
As we get older, we do leave a mark behind - footprints if you will - and even as they fade away, they'll always linger and be a reminder of what we once were.

except Julian who ran away to sea,
and Francisco who was in the wrong play,
and Hannah who couldn’t stop griping,
Randolph who failed the entrance test,
Sally who carried on going forth,
and Maria who couldn’t see the point,
but Hernando had a smile on his face.
