Don’t Take Any Wooden Pennies

I figure you get one chance
in life’s rotating dance
to win the lottery
and even that is spottery.

I had my chance when young
though I do not think I sung
and in my desolation
ten quid was no consolation.

For Express It In Eight, 11.16.24
Prompt: Write a poem about a personal experience.
Note: The worst of it was that, in the same lottery, my mother won a thousand.
