Written for "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window.; TOPIC: Image- sphere and man

As I look at the evening sky
I see an object passing by
It obscures the sun in its flight
Turning the day into night

Soon a fiery halo fills my sight
As I watch in a day turned night
They pass by like heavenly ships
Bringing an end to the solar eclipse

I had a friend who was feeling down
So I wrote a poem about a clown.
I wanted to cheer her, make her smile;
To brighten her mood for a little while

But to my dismay, she started to frown,
She said she was terrified by the clown.
I intended to cheer her, to make her glad
But instead, I wrote a poem that was bad.

Once upon a time, his true love was found,
Love, joy, and happiness would forever abound.
For a while love flourished, life was grand;
They took on the world, hand in hand.
But a time came when she was not there,
She had found another young and more fair.
His heart was broken, his world was shattered,
He became miserable, lonesome, and tattered.

Walking alone in the rain
Dampness in joints causing pain
No one beside me in the fog
Until I’m met by a friendly dog

He walks alongside wagging his tail
A newfound friend along the trail
I started out to walk a lonely mile
But this fury new friend has made me smile

When I listen to the blues they always make me sad,
by bringing back the memories of the sad times I’ve had.
So why then do I listen? Why do I bring myself down
listening to blues songs like, “The Tears of A Clown”?

By looking back at sad times, I set my soul at ease,
for they give a true perspective of life’s realities.
See, there were many happy times and these are what I choose,
but I know I wouldn’t enjoy them if I never had the blues.

Our world lies in shambles
while the people are led astray.
The nights are full of darkness
that last throughout the day!

But in these times of trouble,
a light shines through the lands.
It comes down from the Heavens
showing we’re in God’s good hands.

The water was shallow when we left for the day
Hiking and climbing, we went a long way.
By afternoon clouds and rain replaced the sun
Soaked and cold, this was no longer fun.

We all turned around rushing back to our camp
To get warm by the fire and clothes that weren’t damp.
But, the creek was a river, being fed by the flood,
And our flat grassy campsite was nothing but mud!

It’s a hundred and two as I sit in the shade,
Out with my dog, sipping lemonade.
A month ago, I was out shoveling snow
And waiting for spring and the cold to go!

I say, “It’s out of the freezer, and into the pan,
From freezing my fingers to a nice suntan.”
Yeah, the heat is much better, it seems to me,
But my poor Husky wants in, by the cool A/C!

I feel no completeness tonight.
There’s a big ache in my heart
Making my chest feels tight.
Yes, my heart is breaking apart.

Children I cherish, I have no more,
Left me for reasons I do not know.
Mournfully I pace over the floor
My heart breaking painfully slow.

When I try to pick up after Max
By putting his toys in nice neat stacks
He’s in my way and pulls my hair
Then scatters those toys most everywhere

It’s quite a job to train this boy
To sit, give kisses, or retrieve his toy
But I wouldn’t have it any other way
My Husky pup completes my day

A poem I wrote about bewilderment
Turned out to taste like peppermint.
I mixed in sugar and a touch of sage.
It sent my poem into a blinding rage.

Perhaps if I bake it in an oven hot?
That turned the texture similar to snot.
I chopped it up and in the trash it went,
So much for my poem about bewilderment.

Totally incomprehensible; yes the word befits
The many individuals who refuse to use their wits.
In every town and city, nearly everywhere you go,
Is it legitimately handicapped or thinking just too slow?

They hang upon your bumper or run you off the road
And if nobody stopped them, they’d try to eat a toad.
How do they ever make it and get from day to day,
With total incomprehension of finding their own way?

My eyes are heavy, I stretch and yawn;
I close my eyes, I’ll sleep till dawn.
Cuddled in blankets snug in my bed,
When numerous thoughts invade my head!

I turn and I toss, trying to sleep,
I clear my head and count Bo’s sheep.
It looks like I won’t get to sleep tonight;
I may as well get up and try to write.
