world building breakdown |
I got a giant story mess to filter but how to go about it? how do I break it down? figure how to separate what is for the story and what is the story bible? These questions are what make writing from an idea possible. Mine is based the fantasy/sci-fi/adventure(just got to discover how to do it.) Your story bible will get filled up in no time if you sort your ideas into piles, these piles will be big themselves, but once sorted then the mountain of unfiltered is the story/ characters stuff for your book and series. Pile 1 is the character profiles 1. Name 2. Attribute 3. Description 4. Age 5. Gender(M/F/Mixed) 6. Ethnicity/ race if in a fantasy world 7. Occupation 8. Accent (the way they talk) 9. Height/ weight 10. Markings(Tattoos/ Piercings/ Birthmarks) 11. Mutations(Disfigurements/ Scars/ or Tentacles etc) Pile 2 is Magic(if in story) 1. Type(Fire, Water, Earth, Fire, and yes Spirit(Light vs dark) 2. Yin or Yang this will tell you what nature the magic is 3. all magic comes in the (2.) Spirit has an effect on all things 4 Rules of magic is a must or other will only be chaos Pile 3 is Items name item then sort 1. rank of the item 2. power of the item 3. class of the item 4. laws for the item use Pile 4 story types Pile 5 worlds 1. Name 2. Planetary size 3. system type(culture) 4. settings for that world(each is different the more you make) 5. where the idea is based Pile 6 is character building 1. backstory 2. race (if writing anything other than human) 3. ethnicity (if writing only humans) 4. d&d spreadsheets 5. 15 beat sheet for story path 6. multi-5 if multiple characters cross in and out of each other's stories Pile 7 is what remains to be sorted into further piles if needed(your story) |
