Dark thunder clouds gather
as the storm swallows the sun,
the gloom curdles in the shadows
and spreads across the land;
the first fat drops begin to fall
and the wind hurls them sideways,
a jagged ribbon of blue-white light
streaks to earth in a thunderclap.
