Daydream 2

Out on the summer breeze
from the shade of the maple tree
into the bright sunshine of a cloudless day
and so to distant lands
of white sands and turquoise seas
lazy hammocks between palm trees slung
and cries of gulls from the heights
let us wander free.

Cordon Bleu

The culinary arts are my delight
and my kitchen the scene of wonders bright,
microwave the implement wielded well,
and the freezer source of many a spell.

Oh, the cheese toast of my clever design,
the corn flakes in ways that are only mine,
but the recipe best of my cuisine
needs spices and a can of baked beans.

Wayfare

Uncertain, we set out on life’s journey,
guarded, as though we enter some tourney,
announced our names on the list,
adieu on our lips as we kissed,
then boldly we set foot to path,
armoured ‘gainst deception and wrath,
creating a magnificent past,
till we come to Bitter End at last.

Imagine

Ya gotta love geography,
for me it’s biography.
My nose was always in maps
while waking hours elapsed.

So I travelled in dreams
to places with magical streams
and jellyfish lakes far away;
the world was my turf for a day.

Foreboding

Sometimes I feel we’re like ants,
with our philosophy merely a rant,
and the future over us looming,
dark thunder ahead just booming.

We gather and swarm in our cities
and dream that we’re all sitting pretty,
but the devil laughs at our notions,
as he mixes the next evil potion.

Green Door

Green door,
what’s that secret you’re keeping?
Windows,
to the inside I’m peeking.

Latch key,
under welcome mat hiding.
Unlock,
patience no longer biding.

Self Care

Buy yourself some flowers
or, even better still,
spend some happy hours
stealing them from Bill.

Go drink some herbal tea -
making sure it’s hot,
but me, I’ll have coffee,
black and from the pot.

My Hair’s Still Long

Oh, bless you, Jenny Joseph,
with purple dress and red hat -
I love your late rebellion
and rage in age like that.

I know exactly what you mean
and hear your freedom song,
for my life has been rebellion
and my hair is still too long.

Soma

My father was a pharmacist
but science never kissed
my lips - instead I was forsaken
and by writing I was taken.

So now I sell a different drug
to put a smile on mugs
to take you from this hurtful world
and in escape you’re curled.

Time 4

Sometimes the weight of years lies heavy
on the backs of the old
and the pain of living tests
our patience.

And then a day dawns with fresh resolve
life shining with smiles
as we consider
our blessings.
