Summer clothes the landscape in green,
the trees spread their leafy burdens in the sun,
the grass grows thick, lush and long,
bringing the staccato buzz of mowers
and the scent of manicured lawns in the air.
Thoughts turn somnolent in the steady heat,
a breeze brushes briefly, lightly on the skin;
we dream of other summers, other places.
