Awareness lies like an invisible cloak on innocent shoulders,
it drapes, a weightless film on the life of the newborn,
and ties the cord of belonging round the neck of understanding,
opens the eyes of expectation to past, present and future,
stirs the dust of our passing with the wake of being,
clogs with the grime of the tallied years, the edges of memory,
grows heavy with cares and worries and fears of the self,
wears thin at last as the fading light hides the last of its sheen.
