Day 5 of "The Soundtrack of Your Life" challenge. The next song up is Love You Like a Love Song by Selena Gomez This one is a little bit of a guilty pleasure. I know it is not very cool to like songs from Disney Pop Stars but my love of trance and heavy beats pulled this into my list. Actually I didn't even know that Selena Gomez was the singer for this until I wound up googling the lyrics for it to add it my list of tracks. I have to give her props...she has some great vocals. My exposure to this one definitely came out of hearing a segment of this song played in a commercial several times. I can't remember if it was a car or phone commercial but it after listening to the commercial using it a few times ... I wound up wanting to find it. The tune is very catchy and it is a great electronic mix. It is very easy to dance to as well. On a sidenote... when I attempted to google the lyrics to find this song, it was apparent I didn't identify the lyrics correctly. Instead of the actual lyrics "I love you like a love song baby" I was googling "I love you like I love somebody". I wish I could say this was only time that occurred but misidentifying what the lyrics are happens way more often to me than I'd like to admit. Luckily Google identified what I was looking for and refrained from rolling its eyes at me in the process. - As a special bonus to go along with this post. I am adding in a trinket with another Selena Gomez song hidden inside that I created for another activity. |
Day 4 of "The Soundtrack of Your Life" challenge. Today's song is... There's Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendes 4 entries into this challenge you probably can guess that I love songs that have a great beat. Shawn Mendes is a really good singer. This is another romantic piece and I'm a softie for sweet. The idea that someone can make you feel like you are able to take on the world without any limitations resonates with me a lot. The chorus for this song is wild...it is very fast paced with a lot of rapid lyrics providing an adrenaline rush when you are listening to it. It is the type of speed you would find in rap but this has the bonus of a melody accompanying it. The lyrics are also really good. They are reassuring expressing a feeling of being able to push forward though anything. As a listener I hear this song and have the same inspiration that "nothing would hold me back" as well. - |
Day 3 of "The Soundtrack of Your Life" challenge. Our featured song today is I'm Shipping Up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys I love this one!! This Celtic Rock style gives you the feel you are in an Irish pub when listening to it. It is loud, energetic and intense. It is really exciting to listen to. I think I heard this song originally in an episode of the Simpsons and I added it to my track list upon a relisten when I heard again during a boxing match. Everyone was cheering when it was playing and I knew it would go into my song list for sure. This is one of those songs I like to listen to often when I want to boost my energy. Hearing it playing in the background is guaranteed to spice up any activity you are doing!! - |
Day 2 of "The Soundtrack of Your Life" challenge. Today's song is I Follow Rivers by Lykke Li It is very rare that I would add a song upon instant listen to this list. More often than not... I have heard the music for it playing somewhere in the past and get a reminded of it recently when it was either playing in the background of a store, commercial, television show or Youtube video which I have been watching. It usually leads me to google some of its lyrics upon my next visit to Youtube. Such is the case with "I follow rivers". I think I heard it in a commercial originally but I didn't add it until I heard it again recently this month. I think I was watching a Youtube video where it was playing in the background and thought it sounded really nice. This is another trance mix. It has a great staccato like beat. The song seems to fit with its title. I can picture a coursing river listening to it. It is a great juxtaposition of wild and controlled. I find myself thinking of white water rafting where it is chaotic but flows in one direction. It is like you are following a stream. There is also a little bit of romantic feel to this song too as the singer seems to be mentioning someone she cares about. For some reason I can't help thinking of another song "I will Follow you" when I am listening to this as well. I guess it makes sense. Though they sound completely different, they do share similar lyrics. - |
I'm signed up to participate in a February blogging event called "The Soundtrack of Your Life" where the goal is to share different music videos throughout the month. There is a special merit badge awarded for those who manage to complete 29 entries this month. This activity actually plays right into my wheelhouse. I basically have a favorites Youtube music list that I have been slowly developing over the years which I am really happy to share. Anyway, lets start with one of the more recent ones added to my list: Astronaut in the Ocean by Masked Wolf I first heard this song watching an Instagram reel where a magician was revealing how different magic tricks were done. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwnYcv3rN9Z/?igshid=MTc4MmM1YmI2Ng%3D%3D It was a great soundtrack choice as it captured the feelings I had when watching each magic trick and seeing how it was performed; that sense of having your mind blown with the initial trick followed by realization when the slight of hand was shown again via "slow motion" replay. It really matched with the lyrics of the song perfectly. What wound up happening though was that the magician went through the tricks so quickly that I needed to rewatch the reel several times to see how each trick was done. One sidenote on the magician's video itself is that even knowing how each trick was performed I was still very impressed with the tricks themselves. They all required skill to pull off. In any case as you can imagine as a result of repeated rewatching, the chorus got this stuck in my head. I really like it. It has a fast beat and an energetic feel to it. The titular lyric also paint a great visual picture. I imagine Astronauts underwater with time slowing down. The song style is awesome as well giving a trance feel mixed in with a bit of rap. The electronic synthesizing gives it modern touch and it seems like it is a great song to play at a club. - |

Her scales glistened in the light. She was a Prism shining brightly projecting a spectrum of color from red to violet across the skies. Like sunlight bursting through the lingering rain or mist after a tempest, she encapsulated the essence of a rainbow. Her majestic wings blended in with the clouds around her tempering her radiance in a soft yet brilliant hue. Pastel colors but colors all the same like faded memories of a happy past that still linger; distant dreams that one can't recall completely but still spark ingenuity. Much like the Dove of Biblical lore, this Dragon offered a blessing after a storm flying high and bringing hope!
