"Here's my receipt -- where's my damn heart?!"

Synopsis of Story

Vitro is a senior manager at a hot-shot Internet hosting company worth over $500 million. He has a good job but sad family -- drug addict wife; a son in hospital with 16 broken bones and a punctured liver suffered during an X-sports competition; an in-law who threatens to kill him slowly, following a weekend-long session of fire torture unless he buys him a new boat... On a business trip to Shanghai, Vitro beds a Chinese student whom he meets at a coffee shop but in the midst of merry making he suffers a huge heart attack! Immediately he is rushed to the hospital. He needs a new heart, quick! By paying twice the ongoing rate ($300K instead of $150K) he gets a new heart and flies back home to Phoenix, Arizona on a stretcher solving sudoku puzzles. 3 months later, Vitro has a visitor from China at his door and the visitor is not a happy man. He is actually a scary SOB accompanied by thugs that seem to hold black belts in the art and craft of murder. The problem -- the heart that Vitro received in Shanghai belonged to a bankrupt casino chain owner, Mr. Ho, and not to a street vendor from the North.

And Mr. Ho has actually lost his heart at a poker game to Mr. Lao Shing Lee, the humorless gentleman standing right in front of him. Ho has signed a personal contract which would give his heart to Mr. Lee even though Mr. Lee is healthy as an ox and does not need a heart. But it is the principle, you see, it's a man's word that's what matters in Mr, Lee's book. So Vitro is given 24 hours to pack up his suitcase and join Lee's Circus at the airport for the first flight back to China to "settle the score straight." Vitro's no-gooder wife Carly seems to be tickled pink that her high-achiever looker of a husband is finally getting his comeuppance. The only person who can help Vitro -- at least theoretically -- is his son, who is still not back to 100%. Vitro has to come up with something quick to save his skin. Why don't they just go to LA to settle things? LA hospitals are just as good if not better than those in Shanghai. Vitro knows a doctor who might do a new transplant and save him while returning Ho's heart back to Lee... Vitro in the meanwhile is thinking... "I should certainly be able to come up with something on the way to LA... This is not DUMB AND DUMBER Part 2 -- I hope!"

Lee is amused by Vitro's cockiness and self-confidence. On the way to LA in a stretch limo, Lee makes an unusual offer -- "Why don't we go to Las Vegas and gamble again for MY heart?" he says, while pushing his finger onto Vitro's chest. A very expensive one-on-one heads-up game of poker! Vitro accepts the challenge since he has no other choice and asks -- "Straight is better than three of a kind, correct?" "When was the last time you have played poker?" Lee asks with the kind of smile on his face that perhaps a cat sports before pouncing on a tiny mouse. "In the army," Vitro says and wonders whether he should tell Lee that he fought against the Chinese during the last month of the Korean war as a fresh 18 yeard old kid with pimples from Sandusky, Ohio... then he decides against it. And that's how the stretch limo enters Vegas at 2:30 in the morning...
