A place to keep my personal thoughts.
My thoughts, like teardrops, splash onto the page, causing a rippling effect that disturbs the calm and quiet.

Prompt: Depth of WDC that you've experienced (check out left column as well as Forums)
I'm under no illusion that I've experienced even half of what WDC has to offer. New forums, contests and activities pop up every day, and I don't believe a day has gone by since I came back to the site in March after my break that I don't discover something new.

Trinkets were rather new when I left, and I can't believe how many they are now! I even felt the need to make my own. (Trinkets require an Upgrade to display.) And, OMG, there are dozens of new MB's that weren't around when I left. New forums, new fund raisers, new contests, new activities, and new members. Sadly, some of the members that were here when I left are no longer around or not as active, but I have already met lots of great people who joined the site during my absence.

I find the Community Newsfeed is helpful with finding new contests and activities that are available. I also frequently check out the Activities and Contests under the Community tab. I don't check out the forums and the newbies as much as I used to, but that's on my list as are a lot of other things. *Laugh* But I must say in closing that, regardless of all of the changes and the new users and activities, coming back to WDC is like returning home. There's something here for everyone, and I love being a part of this community! *Heartv*

Prompt: Is "snail mail" still necessary (excluding packages), and why? When was the last time you wrote a paper-and-pen/pencil letter and mailed it (not postcard)?

Yes, yes, yes! Snail mail is crucial for me, and I mail dozens of letters each week. In fact, I mailed several letters today. Let me clarify. I can't remember the last time I wrote or mailed a personal letter. I pay all of my bills online, and I don't even have one postage stamp in my home. But snail mail is a must in my business. I'm an attorney, and I often find myself wishing I practiced law before emails and texts became such an integral part of the profession.

I write (type) letters to clients to memorialize discussions we have had, to send them documents filed in their cases, and to advise them of dates and times of hearings they must attend. I rarely email clients, because of confidentiality concerns. If a client emails me with questions or concerns, I usually send an email back giving them a time to call my office for a discussion. I think having a copy of a letter I've sent to a client to his or her correct mailing address is better proof of contact than pulling a printout of an email from my file, sent to an email address like "hotgirl92@whatever.com" or "crazydave@whatever.com".

Very few clients have my cell number. I've made the mistake of calling a client from my cell only to have them start texting me constantly and even calling me after midnight. However, other attorney do have my number, and it's unreal how much time I spend each day sending and responding to business texts. While emailing and texting are much more convenient and cheaper, I ultimately prefer communicating with clients by sending snail mail or with calls from my office landline.

Prompt: Interesting discovery in your closet or cupboard (go look and find something)

I'm determined to begin my spring cleaning, and I decided my closet was the perfect place to start, especially since I needed something to write about for this prompt. Since the most exciting thing I'm likely to find in my bedroom closet is the mate to a lost shoe (which is actually a very exciting find for me), I started in a closet in an unused bedroom I refer to as "the junk closet".

Last year, my brother and I cleaned out our deceased parents' house, and each of us took a box of momentos. Since it was a very emotional time for me, I put the box in a closet when I got home that evening, promising myself I'd go through it 'soon'. Soon happened to be today, almost a year later.

When I was around five years old, my parents got my brother and me a handheld Pac Man game. I say they got it for us, but it wasn't long until we were all playing, anxiously awaiting our turn to hopefully get the highest score. Over the next few months, I'd say we kept Duracell in business with the number of batteries we used playing the addictive game. I remember we finally got an adapter for the game, and I also remember we continued to play it so much, we managed to wear the adapter out.

Like everything else, we eventually tired of the game, but my parents had kept it, most likely as a reminder of all of the hours of family fun the little game brought us. I found that Pac Man game in the box of momentos today, and it took me back to a happy and carefree time before smartphones and laptops, when my biggest concern was trying to get a higher score than my brother.

Prompt:Are you an introvert or an extrovert? How do you recharge your batteries?:

Even though I spend the majority of my time appearing to be extroverted, I am a total introvert. All day, I go through the motions, arguing in court, talking with clients and cutting up with colleagues and friends while I'm longing for that moment I can go home, change into fuzzy pajamas or sweats and recharge my batteries. Yes, that's how I recharge my batteries.

If left to my own devices, I'd be thrilled curling up with a good book or watching a movie alone or even napping all day. It's different online...I'm not in the same room as the person/people I'm talking to, and I'm not expected to keep a steady flow of conversation. But there are times when I cut out social media, too.

January 2, 2019 Prompt: Write about your most memorable birthday.

This one's easy. After months of begging and numerous promises (I'll get a job...I'll do more chores...I'll win a Nobel Peace Prize), my parents bought me a bright blue Ford Mustang for my 17th birthday. Oh, it was gorgeous!

After having the requisite cake and taking each of my parents on a test drive, I rushed to go out and show my new ride off to my friends. I had driven 4 miles, safely following the 55 mile per hour speed limit, when a humongous truck pulled onto the road, sideways in my path, and stopped. I was no more than 30 feet from the truck, so knowing I had no chance, I braced my hands on the steering wheel to prepare for impact. In hindsight, that was the worst idea ever, but it's what I did. I hit the truck so hard, its lug nuts went through my bumper.

Next thing I remember, my car was totaled, and my left hand was killing me. The air bag had hit my hand, breaking my pinky and crushing my 3rd left metacarpal. Luckily, those were my only injuries. Unless you count a broken heart. My brand new, beautiful car, the car that only had only been driven 31 miles, was a total loss.

After months of physical therapy, I was finally able to start grasping items and type again. It took years to fully regain the use of my left hand and, even now, there are times when it goes numb and/or aches. And even if I ever do forget my 17th birthday, I can look down at the scar (resulting from surgery requiring a plate and 6 screws) as I type as a reminder.

Prompt: What is your opinion of New Year’s Resolutions? Do you make them? Do you keep them?

New Year's Resolutions are just another way for me to procrastinate. Why should I go on a diet in October when I can make it a New Year's Resolution? Surely, I should resolve to stop smoking in 2019 rather than hanging up the habit in December.

Yes, I often tend to delay and negotiate with myself, but if I'm going to actually make a change in my life, I'm not going to do it just because a new year has begun. I've made New Year's Resolutions for many years, and by February, much like the exercise equipment I buy to go along with the Resolutions, they're broken and forgotten.

I do intend to make some positive changes in my life, not necessarily because it's a new year, but because those changes need to be made. But those changes are not going to be New Year's Resolutions that can be kept or broken.

Now I'm going to get my shit together and get some sleep. Hmmm, that would be a great Resolution for 2020...

OK, so after being away for so long, I'm anxious to get back in the swing of things, but I don't even know where to begin! So far, I have managed to do 2 Anniversary Reviews (1 per day) & get "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. going again. Still, I feel restless.

I was disappointed to see that some of my old friends are no longer on the site and others aren't as active as they were before I left. On the other hand, I have already met a few new friends and reconnected with a few others. I guess I just want everything to get back to the way it used to be, but I need to remember not to get so overwhelmed that I feel I need to take a break.

Oh, well. Anyway, it's good to be back. It does sort of feel like coming home again.

Without knowing how much time you have left, would you be willing to reduce your lifespan by 10 years if it meant a significantly better quality (however you define it) to the remaining time you had?

Heck no! If the choice had been 1 year, I would have had to give it a lot of consideration. But 10 years? That's an entire decade! I would much rather have the quality of my current life than have a life with better quality that is 10 years shorter!

With all the conflicting "let it go" vs. "stick with it" advice out there, how do you personally decide when to keep holding onto something and when to finally let it go?

If I knew the answer to that question, I am certain my life would be better by degrees. I tend to hold onto something, even when I shouldn't, even when it is emotionally detrimental. I think the correct answer would be to use logic instead of emotion. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be capable of that.
