What the crave is really about.
On December 29, 2010 I conducted a survey that asked 50 teens 5 simple questions about sex, the influences of sex, and where they felt the most pressure came from. 36 out of the 50 said they felt that the media such as billboards, commercials, and friends play the biggest rolls in why or why not they are sexually active.

One teenager age 17 said she felt like sex is all around her. That it was her choice not to become sexually active; however she could see why younger children are so interested in sex when the media contradict each other. Some commercials say that we should live above the influence but when she see's commercials like the new Beyonce commercial that advertise's her perfume she see's nothing but sex appeal.
"Just seeing how my friends change their ways makes me not want to give into the pressure." Says another teen age 16.

So what is this craze really about? Honestly its about teenagers wanting to feel like their part of something cool. 3 out of every 5 teenagers are sexually active. A few of the sexually active teens that I surveyed admitted to being sucked into having sex because the TV made it look "fun". Some even admitted that after they lost their virginities they regretted it and they wish they would have waited. The younger generations (17 and under) are the ones who seem to be mostly affected by the media. Most of the teens 18 and older said they really didn't care about what the media or their friends said was right or wrong it was their personal choice to become sexually active.

Personally I wasn't sucked in though the media or my friends because I was taught to wait until I ready and have an open relationship with my parents. So when the time did come I felt comfortable and knew exactly what to do.Parents should start paying more attention to what their children are doing, and learn to develop conversational skills with their children; ESPECIALLY their daughters! If the parents would talk to the females we as a whole would be able to cut teen pregnancy in half. In 2005 a study showed that 81% of teenage girls were not using protection! (thats more than a third!) Can you imagine how many teenagers have or have had a STD? Needless to say that the leading carriers of HIV in the US are between the ages of 13 and 25, and whats sad is that most of them don't even know.

BUT we can change these stats! If you're having sex remember to always use protection! (no glove, no love) If you had sex and haven't used protection in the past start using it now. You should get a HIV test at least once a year if you are sexually active. This can help protect you and your parent. That way if your positive you can take steps to help others and if your not you can protect yourself! Its your life why not protect your self and be aware of whats going on with your body. Using a condom can also decrease your chance of getting pregnant though the only way to not get pregnant or contract STDs or HIV is abstinence.
