My thoughts... for what they're worth.
...(hopefully) daily ruminations that add up to 500 words.

Day 30 - Your favorite song at this time last year

It was around this time last year (for some reason July 10th stands out in my mind) that the Kill Hannah Kollective was given an advanced download of New York City Speed and I put it on very heavy (also fairly loud) rotation for ....pretty much until I got the full album. :)

Almost to the end....

Day 29 - A song from your childhood

You see... I spent a large portion of my childhood listening to music. As far back as I can remember, at least four or five, I would lay on the living room floor in front of the stereo, reading or drawing or whatever, listening to music for hours. I listened to an AM "golden oldies" station, my parents' 8-tracks and vinyl. So, "a" song from my childhood is kind of a broad question.

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play

Since I can't play an instrument, this is kind of a moot point so I'll just take this moment to lament that I wasn't made to do anything as a kid and I often look back on it and wonder what would have become of me had I been dragged to piano lessons.... or dance lessons or gymnastics....pretty much anything. When I say all I have ever been, all my life, was a writer, that's pretty much what I'm talking about. I wish I'd been ....not "forced" so much but I am at a loss for a better word so forced to take some kind of lessons as a child.

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh

First instinct... The Ice of Boston by the Dismemberment Plan.... mostly the picture he paints in the second verse.... And I stand there, all alone on New Year's Eve, buck naked, drenched with champagne, looking at a bunch of strangers, looking at them looking at me looking at them and I say, "Ah, fine, Mom, how's Washington?"

Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument

HAHAHA um that one song that you play on the black piano keys with your knuckles??? Unless you consider "voice" an instrument, then, just about anything....Except Kelly Clarkson's songs...they're all in a weird key that I can't match and for some reason also can't transpose into a key I can work with.

Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral

Here's the thing about this question... I'm not religious so there's no special hymn I want played and I'm not sick or suicidal (either emotionally or by action - bungee jumping, jumping a motorcycle through flaming hoops, etc) so I'm hoping to have at least another 40 or 50 years worth of music to choose from when the time comes sooooo I really don't have an answer for this. If a gargoyle falls on my head and crushes me tomorrow, those who know me best should be able to pick out something appropriate that I would approve of.

Day 22 - A song that you listen to when you’re sad

Just as with "angry" it depends on what I want to do with said sadness. For getting over it, anything from Kill Hannah, Something Corporate, Dashboard Confessional or She & Him will usually do the trick.

For wallowing in self-pity, I turn to a couple of songs from Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism, What Sarah Said, Styrofoam Plates - or Something Corporate ....yes, it can work both ways... or Her Space Holiday.

What Sarah Said: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I483tB12SyE The song is so sad but the video....is worse. :(

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I483tB12SyE I know it's a boy band, I know they've been around forrrrrrreeeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrrr but the first time I ever heard this song - during the end credits of one of the only romance movies I actually own, Stardust (the other is Tristan + Isolde) - I wanted it to be the first dance at my wedding.

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy

There is no real answer to this question. I don't have specific songs I listen to when I'm happy...so I guess a song that makes me happy will have to suffice.

Pretty much any She & Him song will do it but this one is especially cute...and so is the video. I Was Made for You.

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry

That depends entirely on what I want to do with said anger. If I am looking to relax and come down then I go to the song that saved my life, Kennedy by Kill Hannah. It's my fall back song for just about every situation...good, bad, or otherwise.

If I want to cultivate the anger and just be mad for a while, I usually go to Linkin Park. Crawling, above all others but sometimes when I just want to be mad I'll just put on an LP album, turn it up as loud as I can and enjoy the adrenaline.

Day 19 - A song from your favorite album

Asking me to pick a, one, single favorite anything when it comes to music is like asking me to pick a favorite among my children (if I had children) and then punch the other one(s) in the face. And to pick a favorite album....

So, here's a list of favorite songs from SOME of my favorite albums.... I'll even keep it to one per album!!!

Kill Hannah - For Never and Ever - Kennedy

Kill Hannah - Hope for the Hopeless - Wrap Myself Around You

The Cure - Disintegration - Fascination Street

AFI - Black Sails in the Sunset - Malleus Maleficarum

Dashboard Confessional - Swiss Army Romance - Age Six Racer

Dashboard Confessional - Dusk and Summer - Don't Wait

Postal Service - Give Up - Such Great Heights

Elliott Smith - Either/Or - Between the Bars

Day 17 - A song that you hear often on the radio

Whoever came up with these didn't put a whole lot of thought into the fact that people living outside of their head would be answering the questions... Just any song I hear on the radio? To start with, I don't listen to the radio very often. I like some of all kinds of music but I lean heavily to rock/alternative so it's very strange (I think, anyway) that the local station that annoys me the least of all is the hip hop rap 16 - 25 age group station. So those are the songs I hear most on the radio...

Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio

Kill Hannah. Period. End of. Like I said...I don't listen to the radio very often but I can honestly say that I have never heard Kill Hannah on the radio. 93.3, I think, plays them but 93.3 is on the other side of the hill... Here is Junk Town, however...nada. I've pestered a couple of DJs on the station mentioned in Day 17 and one of them sounded pretty excited about it but pestering DJs only gets me so far. I need to figure out how to pester programming directors.
