2222, May 15th

A couple centuries ago what was reported in the news was only a small part of the daily drama that others chose to share, that we chose to hear. An obscure poet wrote:

"What was really true, only gnus knew. And they weren't talking to us anymore ..."

Harlow Flick, Right Fielder IMO... It is good to ask questions and look at things in depth and from another point of view. It's why diversity is important in any academic (and non-academic) field. To critically think is more than asking and analyzing 'why' or 'what if'; it also entails looking around at at-the-moment reality. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. A point that some conspiracy theorists won't accept.

But rational thought also has limitations. The Socrates group at our library in Montana was caught in a tautology. Sure... their reasoning was strong; but, stuck in their box (libertarian/anarchistic/AynRand) they were asking the wrong questions and couldn't see that there were other paradigms available to organize society. They left out the practical and emotional.

They were also all white-male. A guarantee to come up with wrong answers.

As for common sense... that's not all too common.

I would add "critical thinking" to academic curricula. Sadly, common sense is often neither.

I'm not certain of this, but I wonder if personal responsibility is out of vogue in the U.S. I grow tired of identity politics.

It troubles me that many well paying jobs have been sent away, across borders, where those good workers are paid pennies on the dollar. I wonder about unregulated capitalism.

Heck, if we humans were wonderful, I might be a communist. But I know we're not wonderful. Not even me.

Oh, and I think there are two damned many humans. We should be as rare as bears.

The irony is that ultra conservatives worship the constitution, which was literally written to prevent this exact situation from happening. Separation of church and state, checks and balances, free and fair elections, an impartial and unbiased supreme court.

If only the founding fathers could see us now...

Fuck guns.

Abortion should remain a safe and legal option for women. Education and contraception need to be advocated by all Americans, that abortion be rarely needed.

Fucking is great fun, but we should take it down from the pedestal our rube society has set it on. Sexual desire is no excuse for reckless or carless behavior that hurts others. The desire is not that overpowering to a reasoning mind.

drkelly This was kept out of the newsfeed all he posted in the feed was a link to the blog, with the strong implication that it was political. You didn't have to click and read.

I find as a woman that we are still a minority group. Thirty years ago my mother qualified as a minority union member for the purposes of getting hired for city jobs in the construction industry. She was a drywall finisher and proud of not just being some flag girl on the highway but someone who was actually doing real construction.

Media Bias? 10.juli.2021 How do you feel about the integrity of the news? Can we believe what we read/see? How much bias is there? from . Random, but linked, thoughts: I lived in a city where Channel 7 broadcast a house fire most every night. Folks quickly formed opinions about that part of town.
