Just because a wound may heal doesn't mean we should go around beating the dogs, the kids, the land upon which we live and depend.
Americans specifically live in a throw-away society. Not all places consume and waste like we do. That we have evangelized consumption, competition and conflict should make Americans ashamed. We aren't.

I lived in a city where Channel 7 broadcast a house fire most every night. Folks quickly formed opinions about that part of town. Since the area was poorer and blacker... no need to guess what the reactions were. My city died in the flames of racism.
