Continuing my life.

It Works For Me

Never owned a brand new car,
Never worked in a white collar,
Never held a woman longer,
Than I ever held one single dollar,
I never went out chasin’ rainbows
‘Cause there can’t be that much to it.
Even if I found a pot of gold –
I know I’d piss right through it.
I can’t remember ever wanting
For one second of my life.
Even if I did it costs too much
To ever pay the price.
I don’t dance out on the dark side
Ain’t no secrets I have to tell.
So you don’t have to say a prayer for me –
I just said one for myself.

I’m livin’ my life under my terms.
I’m callin’ the shots as far as I can see.
I don’t owe nobody nothin’
I don’t answer to a soul.
It might not work for you –
But it works for me.

I’ve been bent and bruised and broken
And flat busted once or twice,
I’ve brought most of it upon myself,
But I never compromised.
My pride’s too hard to swallow,
So I’ve chewed a lot of it.
Mild-mannered and soft-hearted as you get.
I live out on the back roads,
Where I walk my country mile,
And if it’s so good in the city,
Why doesn’t anybody smile?
The traffics always heavy and
The air ain’t fit to breathe.
I ain’t sayin’ that it’s wrong for you –
It just don’t make sense to me.

I’m livin’ my life under my terms.
I’m callin’ the shots as far as I can see.
I don’t owe nobody nothin’ –
I don’t answer to a soul.
It might not work for you –
But it works for me.

Levitating words in graceful flight
Arranged in deft patterns to thrill and delight,
Always something there to raise quiet smile,
And visit her port to linger awhile.
Thanks to her for sharing visions so bright,
1 of the best seen on-site for long while.

A expert who pens acrostics with ease,
Tales wryly told that never fail to please.
Paintings, images abound in her store,
Journal entries with word-magic galore,
For deft reviewing too time she will squeeze,
Do you think you know her? No, there’s still more!

Crossing seas she moved to strange far-off land,
Many things there she couldn’t fully understand.
Victoria, to her, is not queen of old,
But darling child, heart’s treasure we are told.
Her WDC friends are a growing band,
In gaining her amity they’ve struck gold..

So glad her name was drawn and given me,
Been penning these lines with delight and glee.
If writing was piece of music to scan,
The whole octave effortlessly she’d span.
Her newest comrade I would like to be,
Sowing seed of friendship is the game plan.

I have been having health problems that I couldn't put my finger on. So, I just blamed them on my foot. Finally, onw of the drs suggested a catscan of my back., Hello! I go in expecting him to say it is all in my mind - not quite - 3 blown discs and compromised nerves up and down the spinal column. Since I am already on pain killing medication I never noticed. I should barely be able to stand my back. Never mind. I can't see the neuro-surgeon until Sept. 28th. I am no worse off than I was before the iinformation was given to me. Yes, I understand why some things weren't working properly and I can't blame my foot for it any more. Still, I reckon better days are coming.

Welcome to my world
for the next 90 minutes.
I'll be baring my soul
for the price of your ticket.

It has been a very long time since I last blogged. Life sometimes seems to move at a startling pace but when you look back - you can't really say what you have accomplished. That is definitely the case for me. I will try to be a bit more faithful. I want to get back in to the habit of keeping a journal of some kind. Otherwise, I have no idea if anything I do is fruitful.

Speaking of fruitful - today I had my first potato harvest and I was so excited. Tony spent a lot of time laughing at me but I don't care. It was great fun and I feel like a genius because I got something to grow. I am easily satisfied and entertained.

We saw HP tonight. I enjoyed it even though it is often like seeing something totally removed from the books. It is interesting to see them all growing up and I like Neville more all the time. Anyway, it was lovely to go out with his nibs.

After the wallet debacle we decided to go for coffee yesterday at one of my favorite spots. They have couches there in front of a fire and it is very relaxing. This time, we sat down on a couch together and across from us was another couch with 2 people. The woman was wearing gloves - black linen if you please - with a huge bracelet which caught my eye. I could tell that they were suburanites dressed in 'casual country slumming'. Tony had a leather jacket on and jeans. His jacket cost more than the entire rest of our wardrobes and he looks lovely in it but we were still dressed in 'we actually live in the country'. What they had on probably cost more than all we had on plus our car.

This woman ate up almost all our time talking about who and what they were. I was truly amused. The guy confirmed that they had a 'sloop' that was 40 feet long. We were just up from the harbour so it is not unusual to run into 'yachties' but generally they are the locals and look much like us. I was in worn jeans, my oldest bluntie boots and a sweater. The guy was totally bored. Poor Tony made the mistake of saying we didn't own a 'sloop' but my father had had a boat. I quickly dismissed that line by saying it was a twin-engine 36' boat. I knew the yachtie would consider it sacriligious - and he did. Made a derogatory remark about blenders or something. I moved the conversation forward. The woman wanted to exchange phone numbers and kept saying we would have to sail with them. The guy wasn't backing the invitation. Tony told me today that he probably gave her an earful all the way homes in their Mercades. We drive a Subaru Liberty covered in dust with the inside full of 2 dogs. Tony finally stood and said he was gonna walk the dogs and I should stay by the fire. The couple moved as well as they needed to get back to Hobart. I just love those sort of encounters. I like playing with others but tend to be choosy. I will never hear from them again - I am sure. B-t-w: they had a daughter who owned her own multi-million dollar company and one who is an opera singer. It just ain't gonna happen.

When I went to get another drink, I waited patiently for another couple to pay and buy a loaf of fresh fruit bread for the drive home. My mind was on other things. Then I asked for a diet Coke. As I turned to leave the couple came over and asked where I was from. You think it was the accent - which some people know I do not have? I usually just say 'from the States'. Most people don't have a clue where CT is. This couple gave out with a joint laugh and said, 'We know that!". I must have looked really confused at the reaction as the woman piped up and said, "We are Americans. Joel is from NY and I am from Michigan. Now we live here."

I was floored. I listened to them chat away while paying and it never filtered in to my brain that I was listening to Yanks. They were lovely and genuine. He insited on giving me their number. So I gave them mine. Then we excahnged email addresses. So totally different from the first couple. Considering I was wanting to buy a matress that had free delivery without realising it was in the States and I listened to 2 Americans talk without twigging I can only surmise that I have been here way too long.

Usually, we go in there and just chat with each other or say 'g'day' to the locals. Yesterday, we had an EXPERIENCE! A nice way to end a Sunday that was off the show just a few hours before. And I found some real Yanks.
