Leyla's Locket is a Fantasy novel directed at young adults, although it should be a good read for adults as well. I am writing this novel to enter in a scholarship contest. The requirements for the contest were that the novel appeal to 9-12 year old range, be set in the United States, and be over 200 but less than 400 pages in length. Leyla's Locket is Book One of the Rainbow Trilogy. The Rainbow Quest takes place in West Texas, in the small, drought-ridden town of Santa Angela. The story itself is about a woman, Cressida Hammund, whose family was assassinated by an unknown assailant when she was 15 years old, and her search to fulfill her father’s last wish. Cressida must finish her magical training and complete the quest in order to stop a growing threat of evil. Along the way, she takes twelve year old Seraphinus Ulric under her wing to train the young girl in the ways of Rainbow Magic. The two embark on a journey of learning together, in a race against time as the powers of dark close in around them. Please take a moment to read the Prologue and the few Chapters I’ve completed.
