The Umbrella
Write a poem about some commonplace item in your home. Turn your imagination loose to guide your powers of association into several levels of awareness.

The Umbrella

Keep me from the bright-lit sun
As I’m always on the run

When it rains it opens above my head
Keeping me dry from the rain instead

Resting near the door so swell
Or on a hook, it might dwell

An umbrella is of which I speak
Without it I’ll be up a creek

Rain or shine it is a blessing
Keeping me with dry dressing
