He Stood Alone / Canzonetta form

Canzonetta or Canzonet are:

at least 2 octaves, made up of 2 quatrains of alternating rhyme.
written with no fixed meter or line length.
composed with a refrain, repeated in L8 of each octave.
rhymed, ababcdcD, efefgdgD.
is called a Canzonetta Prime when the rhyme scheme is ababcbcB dbdbebeB. In this rhyme scheme, there is often a repeated rhyme word to strengthen the repetition, but it is not required.

He stood alone

He stood alone so many years ago
Even His dearest friends left His side
Denied knowing him before the rooster crow
Romans beat Him unmercifully before He died
Turned over to the scribes by a so-called friend
The people chose to free the other guy
So they beat Him hard to the very end
He stood alone.

They called Him the Son of God
For our Salvation, He died
The Jews, they said He was a fraud
But He, to this day, is on our side
God and Jesus are one and the same
Jesus is the human form of God
But they killed Him in God’s Holy name
He stood alone.
