Rebuilding a blogging community?

When spacebook and Open Salon got popular circa 2009 bloggers drifted off. Serious bloggers went to Open Salon. And then people who wanted to chit-chat went you-know-where and eventually those who needed a quick fix switched to Tweeter. Of those left I think Robert Waltz is about the only serious blogger. The rest of us are sharing personal stuff ... more like a diary or memoir. Prompts can help, but frankly, half don't.

It's why I want to have a creative blog response next 30DBC. Cheddah is in! And that means Colin will have his say. I'm hoping someone here can write fantasy ... someone is an elf ... I'm sure ... or fan-fiction. I'm a Hufflepuff. Maybe a 19th century cowgirl (solving murders and mysteries) or an Edwardian lady writing romance (and undercover intrigue). If 4 or 5 of us do that then it will be a nice mix with those who have interesting REAL lives. Like Charlie ... he's a good writer and shares his pain (so many can't). I'm going to try to keep my blog entries "short". Edit?

There can be community here. Last 30DBC went better than before because people actually commented on each other's blogs. But I know of people who need emotional support and ... *crickets* ... no one comments. Not everyone minds being ignored. But I visited over 30 bloggers this past week and 30 the week before. My blogs are mostly ignored. In 2006 I'd have 10-15 comments per day...

So ... I continue to do what I do. It's not necessarily better elsewhere. In the last 10 years people have retired to their cliques and their caves. They hide behind computer screens and avatars ... and even then ... the toxicity of social media can be devastating. Gen Z is in great danger if they lose the ability to hold a face-to-face conversation. Gen X already shows the damage of living too much in a virtual world.
