March 9, 2020 - Mahvash Irshad - Watch Me Now
March 9, 2020
I decided to pick a poem from a website I am following on Instagram. Yes, I now have an Instagram account. I figured it was a good plan. I chose this poem as a way of celebrating International Women's Day, which was on Sunday March 8.

Many woman live in hardship and under harsh conditions. Women have striven and continue to strive to rise above.

This year's message is:
An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help forge a gender equal world?
Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.

Many woman still struggle, but with awareness and knowledge comes that 'lone warrior' that fights back against the injustice and stands up for herself. In doing so, she shows others it is possible. This poem is about one of those 'lone warriors'.

To rise above this subjugation, we need and women and men standing together to fight for an equal world.

Watch Me Now by Mahvash Irshad | International Women’s Day Celebration

You stole the rainbow

from my sky,

trimmed my wings

and chained my legs.

You painted long nights

in my eyes that were

full of sunlight

and bright grins.

You clapped on hearing

cracks in my bones.

You tore my skin

and let me bleed.

Now watch me

as I show you

how lone warriors

shake this earth.
