The '78 Fall Festival
The "78 Fall Festival
By Lisa Noe
I fondly recall, with some giggles, I might add;
the day I stayed after school to help decorate
and set up the fall festival at D'Iberville Middle School.
The year was 1978 I was in seventh grade. I was so
anxious to be apart of the festivities. I recall watching
the adults as they set up the slot machines in the back room.
It was a wonderful memory for me. However I recall that I
got sick to my stomach and began throwing up, I was so sick.
My mom and daddy came to pick me up that day and my
daddy went in the store, while mom and I stayed in the car.
I kept getting sick and my mom was embarrassed because
I threw up out the door in some strange man's face-- well not
exactly in his face, but close enough that my mom was surely
embarrassed. My daddy came back to the car, knowing I was
sick, he brought me a Halloween coloring book with witches and
ghosts and stuff for the holiday. I kept that coloring book until
after I got married, it meant so much to me. I don't exactly know
why, but it really stayed with me.
