I have proof that crazy people do not only live in America. Apparently, there's some pretty nutty people in Australia too, or at least one, as evidenced by a dating list she created and posted online. Among the list of criteria for the next man in her life was, "(I want) someone in good physical and mental health. I’m not your therapist. The relationship quickly becomes unsexy.” Oh, so many issues! It's very clear she has zero understanding of mental health. But what's even crazier is that a local news station actually gave her air time! Nope, not making this up. Check out the article below, I'll wait. https://www.dmarge.com/2019/02/controversial-dating-checklist.html Are you back? What really ticks me off about this is, not everyone is blessed with a choice to have good mental health. For some of us, if we work hard enough, we can attain good mental health. But for someone who has a mental illness, their "good mental health" is going to look very different. Take depression for instance. I suffer from it regularly. Part of my treatment involves self care, therapy, relaxation and coping skills. I don't always win the battle against depression, but I try to every day. Does that make me unworthy of a relationship? Of a life partner? Of LOVE? Or what about PTSD? I have that too, except my symptoms are largely under control. I have flare ups from time to time of symptoms but I'm not symptomatic like I was ten years ago when I was going to bars every night. Does that make me unworthy of companionship? Make me somehow less desirable? I consider my mental health to be pretty good most of the time but I wouldn't call it good. That's a fluid concept from day to day. I think what angers me the most is she actually thought this was not only a legitimate way to try to date, but newsworthy. I would be ashamed to show my face in public after such a stunt. She certainly should be too. As someone more than a decade older, I shake my head and think, "Oh honey, I really hope you learn to regret that." Someone needs to give her a serving of humble pie.
