Capturing Time's Regrets
Time has a way of capturing moments,
looking back on what I didn't know
It was her life unfolding
I thought she had all the time in the world and mine was limited
Questions remain unanswered, but we know
We know it was something that was unimaginably bad
that propelled her to leave this life
so quickly, so violently one September afternoon
Here I write years later
as her son is about to walk down the aisle in 2019
in a year of happiness we hope
not tragedy as that year showed us a wedding could be
She should be here
Seeing his joy, even sharing it
But she's not
and nothing will change what cannot be, but should be
And the wind whispers her name to us
as we contemplate the future
used to it by now without her
but wishing for a different ending
