My Grandparents
had recycling down to a science.

glass jars
served year after year
as containers
for jellies,
         jams,
         pickles,
         and bacon grease.

Coming form the old school--
of "Waste not want not!"--
nothing usable
was ever discarded.

Torn clothes were mended.

Worn out clothes
were cut up as rags
to wash the car or the commode.
