Chubby Checkers
Chubby Checkers

The begin seating
for the Chubby Checker's show
at seven.

Like sardines in a can
we were packed
shoulder-to-shoulder,
and seated in kitchen chairs
waiting for Chubby to appear.

The Carnival Room was crowded,
with people waiting for the cocktail waitresses
to take their orders.

It was a two drink minimum
(either alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages)
to be set on circular tables
(smaller than a night stand)
shared by six people.

The Carnival room was decorated
by scenes from the Mota Gra
painted into the recesses in the walls,
and lit by a single light set directly
above each picture.

The spot light came on,
winked three or four times,
then the gold curtain rose.

Chubby Checkers
greeted the audience then sang
From Here To Eternity,
followed by The Other Side of Nashville.

After The Other Side of Nashville
the beat of the songs
picked up.

Mr. Checkers
was dressed in blue genes,
boots, and a blue gene jacket over a red t-shirt.

Because they were so tight,
he had trouble
keeping his genes zipped.

Other songs were The Twist,
Huckle-Buckin' with You,
Do The Huckle-Buck,
Monie Baronnie,
etc.
