I Am A Poet: To Frank Vivert
I Am A Poet:
To Frank Vivert
I am a poet!
Spokesman for the homeless,
for the forgotten,
for gaunt bellied men in flopghouses;
for red lipped women selling their bodies;
for the children of hopelessness.
I am a poet!
My verses are coins
tossed into the hat of humanity,
they sate hungry souls
and quench thirsty spirits.
I am a poet!
I share the blood of my experience,
with God's holy image.
I am a poet!
I write epilogues
for the lives of my comrades.
I'm not sure when I wrote this poem. It was inspired by and elderly poet I meat at a poetry reading here in Las Vegas. I suspect this poem was written between 1999 and 2001. I don't know what happened to Frank because he stopped going to the open mic poetry readings.
