"People say I got a drinkin' problem, But I got no problem drinkin' at all, They keep on talkin', Drawing conclusions, They call it a problem, I call it a solution." ~ Midland
Your thoughts on this lyric. How do you help someone with a problem? Can they be helped or do they have to hit rock bottom?
Despite the fact that "drinking problem" is often used as euphemism for someone addicted to alcohol, there is a difference between someone who has a problem and someone dealing with an addiction. An addiction, according to a medical dictionary is "a persistent, compulsive dependence"1, while a problem is a "matter or situation regarded as unwelcome or harmful"2. A problem can be solved or dealt with through with assistance of others or persistence of the individual. While an addiction is a medical problem that must be dealt with by admitting the problem and getting help.
