Star Crossed Lovers and Other Poems to the same person
Star Crossed Lovers:
To George Newland

We were star crossed lovers
standing on the edge of eternity,
awaiting the decree of fate,
that would forever seal our destinies,
and separate our paths.

I love him,
and thought he love me,
but it was only a game he played,
I was just another conquest,
another nude picture for his album.

To me he was an instructor,
who taught the difference between lust and love,
the father of my daughter (given up for adoption).

Now he is a sad,
and perhaps bitter memory:
Was I really so young and foolish?

Your Laughter

I remember your laughter!
It cascaded
like a roaring waterfall
down,
down,
down.
We laughed together;
our daughter was conceived in laughter,
and then the laughter stopped.

Revenge

He phoned me once,
said "Guess who?"
And I stepped on his ego:
I put on my spiked heels
and ground it into the cement
of the Las Vegas strip.

Later I found his photo,
I decided it wasn't worth
setting off the smoke alarm,
so instead of burning it,
I tore it into small pieces
and buried it
in Vashtie's littler box.
