Heading #2

A place of worship, or a House of Prayer, someplace to remember the Almighty.

A place of worship: One of the things that all faith traditions have in common

About this Newsletter

Houses of worship,
Houses of prayer,
Where people come together
To warship the Almighty
By one of the Creator's numerous names.

Letter from the Editor

All religions have, at least, two things in common. The first is a place of worship, which in many cases is a building constructed by the believers. The second is a version of the Golden Rule, which was given to them by the Divine Prophet recognized by that religion. The place of worship, which I refer to in this letter as a House of Worship, can be anyplace consecrated for prayer, meditation, or the rituals of the religion.

As a child, growing up in northern Oklahoma, I went to a Southern Baptist church every Sunday. It was, only, after becoming an adult, and choosing my own spiritual path, that I visited a House of Worship for another religion. Since then, I have visited a Jewish Temple, a Masque, a Mormon Temple, and a Baha'i Center--to name just a few. At each one, I experienced the presence of the same Divine Spirit, which I had felt as a child when I went to church on Sunday.

At each of those Houses of Worship, I noticed the architecture. All of them were constructed differently, while having certain things in common. They all had a sanctuary, where believers gathered to worship. Each sanctuary was different for each religion; however, they were all dedicated to the same purpose--the worship of God through one of the Creator's numerous names. Another thing they have in common is that they all express the beauty of art in their designs.

The designs of each of the Houses of Worship reflect some of the beliefs of the faith tradition or religion, which constructed them. An example of this are the Houses of Worship built by the Baha'is across the world. Each has nine sides and nine doors, which are symbols of unity and welcome all humanity.

I encourage everyone to visit a House of Worship that is not of their own faith tradition. If you encounter something you do not understand, ask questions, because I have found that there is always someone willing to answer your questions.

Reflections on why the site got filled in by the worshipers

Excerpt: Gobeki Tepi which lies in Southern Turkey is said to be the oldest temple on earth. At least it is the oldest one discovered to date. One of the reasons it can be dated accurately is because the temples got filled in with earth from time to time. The result was a lot of carbon material was mixed in with the stones which provided a means for carbon dating. Most ancient temples are found in locations that are open to the elements and only the stones remain...
