Scab
Scab

You itch
like a crusty sore
still new enough to stick
and bleed beneath.

I want to scratch
at the scaly husk
to rid myself of you
but I know, to pick
only stings and opens
a slippery wound.

I will clip my nails,
ignore the prickle,
and like any scab
you eventually
will fall away.
