Friendships

Friendships of the lasting kind
bring joy throughout the years.
The new friendships we yearly find
add pleasure that is near.

Yet, yearly friends may come and go
through work and church and school.
The lifetime friendship that we know
is friend of deepest rule.

The lifetime friend may hurt or bless
by purpose or mistake,
But heart-felt bond will span the test
and never granted take.

Though distance causes daily pain
of separation's loss,
The chance to meet 'mid wind or rain
is worthy any cost.

Conversation goes for time
between the last words spoke
And words we now speak at the prime
of serious or joke.

How strange it seems that greatest friend
is rarely one's own blood,
Since same the poles of magnet's end
both push and act quite rude.

But lifetime friends are those we choose
and take to very heart.
Though often same our thoughts and views,
no diff'rence will us part.

To friend a heart in depths of worthy cause
will selfless give today as back when was
The dance of youthful energy and joy
with focus on their best without alloy.
