March 2, - Cleo Wade
Another book I have been reading is Heart Talk: Poetic Wisdom For A Better Life by Cleo Wade. This one is far more upbeat compared to March 1's contribution. Cleo is said to blend "positivity with arresting honesty to inspire people of all ages". Her work is a 'pep talk' or a 'replenishing pause' or a 'motivational spark' to start your day. This book is one I will be keeping close for the occasional boost.
the day I came home and turned on the light
to those
who did not treat me well
and, for some reason, wondered why I left:
it is because
I remembered that
I loved myself more
than I loved the idea of
an
"us"
it is because
I remmebered
I was worth more
that you could ever
give
it is because
I realized I did not need you
because
I had
me
the day I came home and turned the light on.
This has a similar message to the one Reyne Biddy was conveying, but I like Wade's approach better. It is more life sparked and hopeful. I will revisit these poets over the course of the month. I feel stronger reading this poem... like I am not such a bad person, merely one who realized better was on my own, not staying where I wasn't wanted anymore.
Having completed this short little book, I highly recommend it.
