Repair the broken pieces
with the gold of forgiveness,
reading the sacred writing,
meditation,
prayer,
and faith.

The gold
enhances the beauty,
and makes the once broken item
a work of art.

Since I am reading Adrienne Rich at the moment, here’s a quote. “Until we know the assumptions in which we are drenched, we cannot know ourselves.” This quote blew me off. If what we have been taught, believed, witnessed and agreed with were, in fact, assumptions, how in the world can we get to know our real selves? Your thoughts?

Assumptions

Assumptions we take for granted,
Sometimes they are preconceived ideas,
Sometimes they are learned prejudices,
Usually they separate humankind into Them and Us.
Most of the time, they conceal the individual's true self.
Presumptive arrogance, hatred, and disunity
Tests our assumptions about humanity.
It is the duty of the individual to question;
Only through self-reflection can we
Name and destroy our assumptions.
Search for truth and destroy soul-blinding assumptions.
